N.O.S. for me.

...As I said in another thread, I can't see the point in paying more and getting less paint.

I voted for relic because I don't want Fender to become dishearted about guitar manufacturing. I, of course, would never, ever, buy a broken or damaged anything without it being represented in the price.

I like things original, authentic, and I look after things too. I would have loved a NOS (but American-not MIM) '72 Tele Deluxe. Even more, to find a 70's one in some guy's attic in great nick!! But it's just not how it worked out...I spotted a Relic in my home town, and played it out of interest, knowing I wasn't a relic man. It was fantastic to play. I kept looking, but kept playing it at the store. It came on (a good) special and I negotiated it down a teeny bit more and...presto, I'm a relic owner. It boiled down to just feeling and sounding so bloody good. I've gotten my head around the battering the poor thing got because the thing is tangibly master-built and beyond any shadow of a doubt one-of-a kind. It boils down to experience, not image. (ironically)

I have a NOS custom shop 1960 Strat and a CS Relic '51 Nocaster. My strat is a self relic job i.e. many many gigs worth of dents, scratches etc. It all came down to the sound and feel w/ the Nocaster, an amazing sounding guitar... as far as the relic thing goes it doesn't detract but it's kinda like buying already faded acid washed jeans.

I'd probably buy a NOS. Still, there is something special about a guitar's vibe when it shows signs of wear, years of being played, and and scars from the road . . . even if they aren't real.

Absolutely NOS. If you wanna have a relic one, then just tie a rope to its neck and another end to your car´s hook and keep driving 10 miles or so while you´re towing it over the highway - that´s a relic one - you really don´t need to pay any extra for abused one. And secondly, if you keep playing that NOS guitar, it becomes relic by itself after years go by - you just can´t avoid scratches and dents....

I don't gig so none of mine show any wear. My '86 Strat has almost no scratches at least none you'd notice. The only things that give away its age are the funky Kahler bridge and the yellowing pickup covers and knobs.

I wonder what my '71 Mustang would look like . . . if I still had it.
