Custom Shop Blackie. 6th string runs almost off the fetboard (well a lot closer to the edge) near the pups.

Do I need to make some adjustments at the bridge end, the nut end measures the same as my other strats.

Have you checked that the neck is in line with the bridge ?
Otherwise just detent the screws of the neck pocket and slightly re-align the neck

Thanks for the reply Alain. As a custom shop Strat, I hoped that I wouldn't have to start taking the thing to pieces. It was also set up in Denmark street (London) so maybe I'm just being too fussy. It's just that it looks weird when sitting next to my other Strats.

No, it needs fixing so I'll have to read up about how to check the neck alignment and sort it.

The thing is that the top string looks just fine, as if neck alignment is fine. So I wonder if the bridge components are out of whack?

Shaky: Take the guitar back to the dealer. Don't mess with it yourself!! Have a competent tech do it., For that kind of money it should be out of the box perfect and not need any adjustments save maybe a tweak!

The 'official line' is that THE 'Blackie' neck was worn such that "it could not stand another refretting" and Eric was looking for something with a little more 'whack' so they started with the Elite Strat back in the mid-eighties and the final product was the first -generation Artist Signature Series guitar. The color options were pewter, red, and 7-up Green. The new "Blackie" came along a bit later and carried the name "Blackie' on the face of the headstock.

The design follows the nuances of the old stage guitar in that it is basically a '57 Strat with a 25db midboost circuit, a stopped trem block, and had, at the time, gold Lace Sensor pickups which was a collaboration between Fender and Lace technologies. There are those among us who feel that the tone of that instrument was superior to the new Fender Noiseless pickups, and that the guitars build during the first few years had more moxie than the later issues. This is a matter of preference.

I maintain that my '93 had a slightly more tapered neck than the current guitar.

As far as the exact replica guitar. That was the limited production Tribute Series instrument which was marketed at Thanksgiving of 2006 and sold for 25K. According to Eric, and to my GC rep who had handled both the original and the replica, Fender dimed it to the nines.

Hope this has answered some of your questions to your satisfaction.
