It's obvious that he does. But he hasn't ditch the Laces. He uses one for slide.
Must like that throaty tone the Laces turn out.

Sorry for any inconvenience, but I got a warning message from ME. He said I provide too many misinformations and told me to stop.

Honestly... I was very displeased to find that's the first time to be (mis)labeled as a troll. Therefore if the problems persist I'm ready to quit that forum...

EC also played slide with a VN-equipped signature Blackie during a gig at Birmingham (AL) in 2006.

I also saw him doing the same thing while performing with the Plastic Ono Band at Brooklyn's Music Academy in February 16th, 2010.

These were the only moments Eric used the Noiseless pickups for slide. ZZDoc is quite right, he prefers the Lace Sensors while playing with a bottleneck because they're more throaty.

If you feel your sources are reliable and correct you might consider sharing them with him privately to support your positions. Most of the 'factual' information I cite is gleaned from the Christies Catalog and direct quotes attributed to both Lee, Eric and the Christies specialists, as well as Mike Stevens from other online sources. Added to these are little tidbits that Mike Eldred has provided us over the past years. The wrinkle he and I had on this thread derives from my interpretation of something Eric quoted. I, of course, given the time of his interview, assumed that 'the new models' he was comparing his old guitar's 'in-between sound' to were the guitars with the VN's. Mike replied that he was comparing stock pickups to the Lace sensors. I simply deferred to what ever personal knowledge he might have regarding that interview. How Eric came to begin to use the VN's came directly to us from Mike in these pages in response to something I had speculated on

When you post stuff that is untrue like:
“Some FSRs are made at the CS, others are manufactured at the Ensenada facility in Mexico. The CS did FSRs of the popular '72 Tele Thinline and Custom in 2005. These beautiful reproductions were crafted by former Master Builder Louis Salgado.”

“Jeff went back to his previous choice of huge baseball bat necks on his personal stage guitar.”

You are spreading dis-information, and others may see that and think it's correct. I even ask you where you come up with these ..."ideas", and you don't answer. That is why I warned you.

These informations are true.

- The CS did indeed a few FSRs such as the '72 Customs and Thinlines in 2005. Louis Salgado was the Senior Master builder who was responsible for these creations. I saw those guitars while surfing on many Japanese websites. Here is a wiki quote:

Quote:
There are now two versions of the Telecaster Thinline. The 1969 version has two standard Telecaster pickups and a mahogany body, while the 1972 version, based on the Fender Telecaster Deluxe, yields two Fender Wide Range pickups and a solid natural swamp ash body. Both guitars are made in Mexico and Japan as a part of the Classic Series of guitars and basses, followed by higher-end American-made Factory Special Run (FSR) versions from the Fender Custom Shop in 2005.

Rakuten lists this 2005 FSR '72 Thinline (Natural Ash) finished in nitrocellulose lacquer:

- The info concerning the huge baseball bat necks was reportedly quoted by Trevor Wilkinson, here's the quote from Harmony Central's forums:

Quote:
As well as the Wilkinson nut, JB's personal instruments have the 'old' baseball-bat neck profile from the Mk1 version of his sig Strat. For a while they also had the Hot Noiseless PUs (specifically developed for him and initially available exclusively on his sig models), but -- last I heard -- his personal instruments currently feature exclusive customwound Suhr pickups.

My apologies if my response was delayed.

So, "many Japanese websites" and a "quote from Harmony Central" are the best places for you to get information, and then post it (without checking it out first) on the web? Why don't you ask first, or check that info out?

The Custom Shop isn't a factory, so they don't do Factory Special Runs.

They do Dealer Selects and Limited Editions that are sort of similar to the same concept as FSR's, but the phrase "FSR" means it was made in one of the two Fender factories -- Corona or Ensenada.

What's that rakutan link supposed to prove? I used Google to translate the Japanese characters into English, and while that mangles things sometimes there's absolutely nothing that could be construed as saying it's a Custom Shop model. They don't show a pic of the back of the head where the FCS logo would be (if it was an FCS product instead of a Fender USA factory product).

Thanks for the confirmations.

Yep, these guitars Louis had built in 2005 were Dealer Selects/LTDs and not FSRs as erroneously cited by many Far-Eastern Websites and Wikipedia.

I'm very frustrated, sorry.. :(

In a feature article on Jeff Beck published by Vintage Guitar Magazine Aug 12, 2012 we glean the following details from Dan Forte's interview re: Jeff Beck's Signature Strat modifications for his personal use.....
-'the main white one is a '95 basswood body made by J.W.Black
-'the neck is a '93 made by J.W. Black
-the pickups are by John Suhr and there are only two sets in existence; one set is in the main guitar and the other in the Surf Green spare.
-he is using Fender Custom Shop N3 pickups made by Michael Frank-Braun for all the other back up Strats.
The article goes on to discuss many, many other details of his gear which I trust will be of extreme interest to the members. I have annexed the link for your interest and perusal thereof. It's likely the most detailed and comprehensive interview of him I have ever read.

Now the question becomes...do we accept this article as a reliable source for the information it's proported to convey? I raise this point, most respectfully of course, in response to Mike's exchange with Chromeface.[I for one would be loathe to see Chromeface walk. IMHO he has been of inestimable value as a contributor.] But I digress. If Mike, in the ordinary course of his work, becomes priviledged to information contrary to what we have read therein, the credibility of the Forte article is thus impeached, unbeknownst to the reader. A most difficult, no less embarassing, circumstance to be thrust into, when one is honestly endeavoring to contribute to the knowledge base in these Forums, for the benefit of all concerned, is to be faced with the question "and, if I tell you they are wrong, doesn't that mean anything?

Would be impossible to know unless you were nose to nose with the pickup covers. Of greater interest to me was the tech's suposition that Fender would love to get their hands on those Suhr pickups so they could replicate them but that the guitars are never out of Jeff's hands long enough to get 'em back to the company. Who knows if he'd even permit it. He might even have an agreement with Suhr prohibiting such a happening. In this businesss ya never know.

Personally, I find it utterly staggering that anyone posting in a custom shop forum would attempt to contradict what the custom shop director says.

I think that anyone participating in these forums should be grateful that Mike actually takes the time to post answers to our sometimes quite futile queries.

Okay, rant over - on to a question: what pickups are in TBO??
