It can't be a matter of cost in this regard. The headstock speaks to this one being of the first generation Signature Series. I would be that, tone wise. he prefers this guitar for slide. Wouldn't attempt to speak to whether or not it has a TBX not knowing the year it was built for him. He might have even purchased it off the wall somewhere. Who knows.

Mike Eldred advised us that Fender sent Eric a set of VN's to try out and he liked them better than the Laces. Why they did that? We don't know. All kinds of things go on in the corporate closet. Said to have sounded a bit brighter to his ear, which is also the reason why there is no TBX in his stage guitars.

The stage guitars he uses for the slide repertoire do have the TBX and Laces.

that is quite a dated picture, though.

I see Eric's using 'EC Autumn/Fall Brown' hair-colouring in that pic. Just For Men will have a signature bottle available soon.

Sorry...only 50...Its a LTD run available in the UK only. It's a special consideraton for Lefty, having been shut out of the other projects due to his sinister predisposition.

I agree with you on that, however also bear in mind that those Laces in 24 Nights went through a Soldano SLO100 and a Pete Cornish rack system, whilst the VN's just go through a '57 Twin.

It's also a matter of personal taste. The VN's sound much rounder, mellower. Laces are louder with more treble and have a glassier sound. I can imagine Clapton wanted something different just for the sake of having something different, after having worked with the Lace pickups for well over a decade.

I personally prefer the Laces, and think they pair better with the mid boost circuit. VN's + mid boost sound rather muddy to my ear.

I'd wait for the dalbergia nigra coloring, available soon at a hefty markup.

Interesting. I've been given to understand that, for Eric, it was the other way around. Also the reason he ditched the TBX. Too muddy. I hear the Laces differently. Less glassy...more meat for that bluesy sound.

Clapton uses the '57 Twin since mid-1994.

For those who like the early 1990s Clapton sound I'd recommend a Digitech GNX3000 effect unit to emulate the Cornish rack and a Wampler SLOstortion stomp box as a good alternative.

An EC Grey Strat (Teambuilt) with Lace Sensors & TBX tone circuit and a pair of Twinolux amplifiers are mandatory.

He still uses the '57 Twins on this tour.

The Dumble amp you're referring to is solely used to drive the Leslie cabinet.
