Sorry for the cross-post, but I was told to post this here for Alain for consideration for some Guitar Motel thing, in any event, you guys would probably want to see this anyway... so my apologies for reposting this here.

It's currently at CB Perkins Guitar Shop in San Jose to assess what warranty work needs to be done to bring it back up to spec. (fret end clear coat delamination, needs a fret level due to 13 years of settling, etc...)

Oh, and if anyone here with authority at Fender has the power, I'd rather the guitar go back to the CS for repairs, but that's not my call, just thought I'd throw it out. :P

------------
New Old Stock Guitar Day!

One piece flamed Koa body. Koa neck with flame and a little birdseye at the headstock.

Yes, I have a GAS problem.

I've been drooling over this thing for like... a decade. Every time I went to Guitar Showcase, I'd go into the Vintage Room and drool. Back when it had a NOT FOR SALE sign on it, for the longest time. Seeing how I had money set aside for an ESP and Jackson custom order, both of which looks like will never happen, I finally gave in to my urges. It came with everything in the original package, the Custom Shop package with guitar cord, tremolo arm, cleaning cloth hasn't even been opened yet, and I probably won't open it. It even came with the original shipping box!

This was part of a two piece set. The owner of Guitar Showcase didn't want to break apart the set, but Larry Ellison kept throwing money at him until he gave in. This one was supposed to go to Kirk Hammet, twice... but he flaked on it both times. The last time they had it packed up and were going to drive it up to him, but his guitar tech said he had to take an early flight... and never came back for it. I dunno the validity of the stories, but this is one amazing looking guitar. I didn't even bother to plug it in because whatever it sounds like at the showroom isn't going to represent how it will sound with my amp. It's so dark and brooding. I loved mahogany, but this is like so much more guttural and dark. Not very much in the high frequency, but that's fine with me. The lower midrange is amazing. This guitar has the best voicing of any that I've ever played. It's seriously got some mojo.

It does have a neck issue. There is some moderate string buzz on the neck. But, this is a new guitar and it's a Custom Shop piece, so Fender will pay shipping both ways. All it needs is to be Plek'd and it should be amazing.

It has this deep guttural growl... kinda like mahogany, but but much more organic sounding. It's the most evil sounding guitar I've ever owned, even with the relatively mild vintage humbucker, I did not need to adjust a single setting on my Orange. I just plugged it in and it sounded like god. Most of the fret buzz isn't noticeable when plugged in, so that's good. But after sitting in a museum for the past 13 years in the Guitar Showcase's owners collection, it's finally found a home.

Without further delay:

Congrats
A stunning guitar
If you can fix all the little problems you mention; it will be a real exceptional Fender Custom Shop guitar as it should be.

It will be a pleasure to have such a nice guitar on guitarmotel; but we do have some strict photo formats to make things even.
I'll send you a PM

If you want to put it up there, I can take new photos for you when I get it back.

Personally, I'm not bothered either way, but this thing is really something different and special, sitting forgotten in a huge collection being neglected (not played) and overlooked... I know most traditionalists wouldn't care because it's a radical departure, but that's what I really love about it.

I know I've kinda been showing it off, but I had already resisted the temptation to buy it because of that for about a week. Mahogany body and maple/ebony neck is hands down my favorite tone wood combo and I've read enough about Koa to know it has similar properties. I worked for a number of years in construction, some of it doing high end finish work... and the solid one-piece slab of koa and overall wood selection and craftsmanship is what pushed me over the fence. And the real bonus was that it had an unadjusted 1999 price for it.

I was looking at Suhrs and Andersons, and I kept thinking about this Showmaster. It really wasn't much more than the other guitars I was looking at, but the wood selection and build quality of this guitar is hands down, just amazing. I just hope they can get the neck back to spec. It's not far off, but bad enough that I wouldn't normally buy it.

I'm not a Fender guy and I don't particularly care for most Fender CS or USA production guitars. Their fretwork is usually nice and are generally very consistent quality guitars, and I'd be more than happy with a standard CS build, but until recently, I never found any that compelled me to purchase it. This one pushed me over the edge.
