I just bought a 2011 Custom Deluxe Tele with rosewood fingerboard in faded white. It sounds AWESOME. It plays amazing BUT... The Mother of Pearl markers on the side of the neck virtually disappear on a dark stage. I'm screwing up left and right.

Any suggestions? Help!

Thanks but it cant really be tape though. It will just rub off when I play, especially sliding up and down the neck.

Ideally it's something more permanent. A friend suggested white nail polish but I'm not too sure about that. I wish Fender had just made the markers white on the edge. I was hoping for some suggestion from Mike Eldred or something. I can't be the first person to bring this up.

It is the first time I have heard of it. We use the MOP or Abalone markers a lot, and it is vintage correct on some of the late 60's instruments. As far as a fix, you can take it to a good repair person and they should be able to replace the dots with white plastic or larger diameter dots.

Really? Guess I'm blinder than I thought. I thought about that possibility but was worried it would void my warranty but if it's ok with you I'll probably get it done. There are a few very good luthiers around here in Southern Ontario, the 12th fret is one I can think of.

Are there any "Authorized Custom Shop Repair Centres" in the Toronto area that would do that kind of work?

Apparently there's no one in Ontario! Wow!

Guess I'll have to find someone local.

Thanks

Fast forward to 3:55. Can't hurt to try it on your guitar to see if it holds up.

True! If it's good enough for Keith Urban... I'll give it a try. But can I have his guitars and tech to go along with it? :D

Thanks

FYI, I had a local inlay guy put larger split dots in for $120. White mother of pearl where it's in the rosewood and rosewood where it's in the light maple neck. Works like a charm.

Mike Eldred, I have the same problem with a custom ordered 62 Stratocaster Relic. Whatever you guys did to age the neck darkened the side dots so much that they are nearly as dark as the rosewood. Pretty much impossible to see in stage and studio lighting. Aside from that, it’s a great guitar. Is there a way to remove the darkening? Naphtha or something like it?

Mike Eldred left Fender's Custom Shop several years ago. You might consult with a local luthier about replacing those darkened side dots with something more visible.
