Doc,

From the Fender On Line catalog it seems the EC Custom Artist Model doesn't have anymore the TBX ,but before they were fitted with it but I don't know when the change happened.

Here are two images from this site. The first is the Clapton artist version with the signature on the front and the second is the custom shop version with the signature on the back and the custom shop logo on the front. This is how mine is marked up.

the Custom Shop Crest is usually on the back of the headstock in about the same location as EC's signature appears on the front of the production Artist guitar.....unless they've changed something. .....and one more thing......is the neck on your CS guitar decidedly whiter because my '93 production Artist's was and I preferred it that way. I believe the new production guitars have a more vintage paint.

Please note my post to alainlafrance. Perhaps we'll get another perspective from his collection.

Interesting!! Wonder when this individual's guitar was built?? It sounds new from his commentary.

It might be of help, in that you own more than one CS Clapton, if you could post some photos of of the backs of the headstocks for Shaky to review. We'll be able to see whether we are talking about similar apples.

I'll look for you both later.. Gotta run

Doc.

OK, its official, I'm a tit!

The custom logo is on the back with Eric's signature. It is the custom body decal on the front. Sorry chums.

Shaky:

You might want to take a real close look at that headstock again. It reads 'Original Contour Body' and THAT has been there since inception in 1954 but may have been removed from some models from time to time over the years. It doesn't appear on the Artist Series Clapton in lieu of his signature.

Now we just have to address the TBX question.

Carry on.

I know it isn't found in the 'Tribute". Do you have it in your other CS Clapton's, for example: the as built for ?'

As you can see from the above, the 'logo' question has been answered.

It's midnite here. Gotta go. Have a great day. Will look for you all later.

So I put my specs on and sure enough it read 'contour' as opposed to 'custom'. Then I dug out my '79 strat which I bought in '81 to check and as you say, it wasn't on all models. I thought there were a lot of Custom bodies around. DOH!

Shaky:

The design of the Stratocaster featured what was ultimately to labelled the custom contoured body. It was carried on the headstock as a feature highlight in the same fashion as the synchronized tremolo. Your other guitar is of a vintage where a great deal of change was going on at Fender.

Your interests should lead you to reading the many publications available on this subject. When I return home this evening EDT I will post some of these for your attention unless another will have done so before me.

Doc.

Cheers doc, I look forward to reading the articles. I must get 'The boys together' and take a photograph of them all to post on the 'pics of guitars' thread.

PS If you could stop quoting the bit where I said I am a tit, that would be great. I think I wrote that later at night when I had had a beer, although I was being a tit.

Sorry about carrying forth your mis-spokes. Look forward to your postings.
Suggest you Google "Fender Stratocaster-History and see what links you can find.

For starters, there's a great 50th Anniversary book you should own.

Understood. It is likely not needed at this point. We've straightened out all his logos.

There's an author named Briddell with a recent post entitled "Most Expensive...... I told him about you. Suppose you find it and post the URL to your website for him.

If you follow the string of replies you'll find my response. I suggested that he look for you but it might be interesting and faster for you to find him. I hope he doesn't have a heart attack when he goes to your site.

I'd like to be there to see his face!

Late where you are now. Good nite and thanks for the reply.

Doc.

LOL, i have to laugh at 'vintage paint'. Please, let me paint my house 'old'. personally, I like the 'whiter' necks and headstock. Let it yellow as I use it, unless I am purchasing a vintage guitar.
