The neck on the Larry Brooks Masterbuilt has one of the nicest grains ever seen.

It's likely the same Blackie in which the Lace Sensors were swapped out for the Vintage Noiseless pickups in March 2000. Around this time the TBX was replaced with a stock 250K tone pot.

This guitar became Eric's main stage guitar after the Crashocasters' retirement in late 2004.

Other than what's in the auction catalogue (1999) I don't really have anything to add. From your post I figure you have that catalogue? If not maybe I can type some of the notes up here.

Not that one. Historically, I've been able to find out-takes from it, but no luck yet. If I remember our collective histories, a green guitar had been painted black. Are you suggesting that the same thing happened to create a Mercedes Blue finish? There's nothing in that sort regarding the comments from Clapton and Dickson with respect to the guitars used in 1990-2000 decade. Nor has he put any such guitar up for auction. I have not seen the new Bohnam's catalog. Have you?

No no no :) In the catalogue it's described as a custom black/green metallic finish (to match a Mercedes C36 he had at the time). That's because the case has a paper label written by Lee Dickson which says black/green strat. It's then added in the notes that although it's described as black/green it actually looks blue. * same applies for the other Merc Blue in the auction.

I have all the catalogues. Shame you didn't get the 1999 one - it's very good (like the 2004). It's has the two Mercedes Blue guitars and also one of the Midnight Blue (amongst many others).

At the time my head was in a different place. I really didn't get rolling back into this 'stuff' until the Forums were created and we began exchanging all this great yadayada. One guitar, which I would have loved to have seen under the lights, was that Rainbow Rod, finished in Chromalusion paint. I don't know if it made it to the stage, ever. If you haven't done so yet, do a Google search on that paint and get a look what some of the automobiles finished in that kind of paint look like.

That one looks very interesting in the photos. I've never seen that paint in real life.
The (2004) catalogue says it was used live but not very often. There's a photo from a 2001 gig showing it in use (not a very good photo though).

Thanks. I realize that you have access to 'Where's Eric' where a lot of this esoteric is likely to appear. Well someone out there is the proud owner of that guitar.

There's an EC guitar coming up for auction on the 23d of July, for a good cause and to those with pockets.

It's all about 'pockets' when Clapton sells his gear. Keeps the Crossroads Center in the black. That model/finish, signed, and with its history, may likely be the reason why the finish was not released to even the Custom Shop. I wouldn't be surprised if 'Collector Deep Pockets' stood $500K US for it.

While not one of his more famous guitars, it was one of two that were played during the 70th birthday series of shows.

It sold for $45K... and the proceeds went to a Cancer foundation in support of a former bandmates departed wife.

Unusually for Clapton these guitars were based on Buddy Holly's sunburst '55.

So much for your hopes for an EPC Red Strat. Or are you still holding out?

I've seen a photo from an EPC Rosso standing beneath Eric's personal stage axes.

From what I've heard the EPC Rosso was used for warm-ups.

Maybe you can enlist the aid of the Russian cybersnoopers and pirate a photo of that guitar. From what I heard of the goings on within the Democrat National Committee, the Ruskies are pretty good at that kind of stuff.

I hate pirating everything else.

Elliot had sent me a link with a shot from that EPC Rosso. Too bad I've had deleted the PM containing the URL.

Give him another shout. He might just still have it.
