My '63/'64 Jaguar has one of the best guitar tones I have ever heard and I'm currently looking into buying another one from the same time period (different color/better neck feel). I'm also considering a Masterbuilt Custom Shop Jaguar because then I can be assured that the neck feel, playability and color will be just the way I want it but I'm wondering, if for some reason the pickups don't sound exactly the same can they tweak them to my satisfaction? Are there any CS Jags out there now that replicate the late 63/early 64 version?

It seems that most of the current US Jaguar models have the same pickups (American Vintage '62 Jaguar) and the few examples I've heard sound pretty good. On the other hand the MIJ and MIM Jaguars I've heard don't even sound close. Their so-called twang was very generic and it did not have that unique Jag tone at all. Do the Custom Shop and standard US production models use the same "Special Design" pickups?

I've also noticed a few alternatives out there such as the Special Design Hot Jaguar pickups in the 50th Anniversary Jaguar. Are these more vintage spec or modern spec? The pickups on my '63 Jag are 7.1kHz/7.5kHz. I've read that from 1962 to 1966 Fender Jaguar pickups varied quite a bit. Are the American Vintage '62 Jaguar pickups designed as sort of an "average" of those variations or did they choose a specific year? Most surf afficianados seem to feel that the '63/'64 Jaguar is the epitome of the classic surf sound.

I might be wrong but I believe that all the Jaguars with the exception of the Custom Shop have hot pickups. I have no Jag experience and I don't know if that's good or bad but I figure that the Classic Player Jaguar is Custom Shop designed and they do know what they are doing so maybe it's a good thing. Maybe the hot pickups have more benefit as opposed to the vintage correct pickups. Too deep of a question for me.
