Nice Mr. Clapton...but all your pics are backwards :lol: So I bet you never heard that one before huh :lol: The Clapton model strats are really fine guitars and the Custom Shop ones even more so.

Yeah, its definitely not easy! I'd love to do that thing righties can do where they can walk into a shop and play a dozen custom shop strats and pick the one that speaks to them! Unfortunately even the big stores only ever stock 1 or 2 high end lefties at a time.

I sometimes look back and think maybe I should have tried to learn to play right handed instead when I first took up the instrument. Things would be so much simpler (and cheaper!)

Thanks haha! Yep, heard that one... :lol:

Trust me, even when I look at pictures of my own guitars, if its something iconic like a strat or les paul, even to me they dont look quite right. No worries when you're playing the things though! :wink:

Thanks man! I think Jason Smith does some fantastic aging on his guitars, from the ones I've seen. 8)

I know some people hate relics but my dream guitar (Like a lot of people!) would be an early 60s sunburst strat. Nothing looks cooler to me than a 60s strat thats been well played but loved aswell. For me, this is as close to my dream guitar as I'll likely get!

First time I saw it I thought it looked pretty close to how a vintage 60s strat looks today. Aged but not over the top. There is a lot going on with the finish. Lots of fine checking that wont even show up on a photo!

I used to get turned off by relics as, at one point, they were over the top and I hated all the rust on the hardware. Seems these last couple of years they've toned it down as the hardware has a tiny bit of rust but its mostly just dulled and tarnished, which is what the bridge and saddles etc look like on most vintage pieces I've seen.

The angle you took the photo with the light reflecting off it shows how good a job it is. I love it. And i have been anti relic up till now... As you say it looks like a 60's strat.... I have spent a lot of money getting my strats to sound like 60's but hey you've got the mojo there in that one.... Congratz again.... Its lovley.... Just back the front :P :lol: :lol:

Thanks again mate!

Loving this guitar. Early days but I think she's the one. Can't stop picking her up and just looking! I reckon she'll kill the GAS I've been suffering all these years and I can't see me ever wanting to part with her.

Looks really authentic to me but also sounds killer. It's strat tone but just seems fuller than the average strats I've played to date. Really sweet sounding Abby handwound 65s.

Nice, I put the don mare hand wound super sports in my 88 and they are the sweetest strat pickups I ever heard. Such nice voice in all positions. Closest to a 60's strat sound I ever heard.

I'm not familiar with Don Mare pups, to be honest! Tried a couple of bareknuckle single coil sets before and they do fender vintage tone very well indeed.

@LeftyElliot

The Gene Baker Masterbuild 1995 EC is a pristine replication of the "smoker guitar" Eric used extensively between 1988 and 1993.

For everyone knows the story the "smoker guitar" started life as a Pewter model in 1986 sporting a 21-fret neck, Schaller straplocks and a 21dB boost circuit with TBX tone control and a bypass switch; in February of 1988 the original 21-fret neck was exchanged for a 22-fret flame maple neck crafted by Michael Stevens, the boost was increased to 25dB and the bypass switch has been removed.
Per Clapton's request, Jay W. Black transferred that Stevens flame maple neck into a black body in 1990; the first official signature Blackie was born.

There was also another Pewter "smoker guitar" that sported a birdseye maple neck; often used as a spare.
