So, I've had my eye on this guitar for months and months but the price was way out of my range.

Decided I'd shift some gear and trade up for it. It cost me 2 guitars, 1 amp, 1 boutique overdrive pedal lol.

My Jason Smith '63 Strat relic...

Best guitar I've ever owned, just something about it. A really lovely weight and acoustically it has a lot of vibe. All pickup selections sound great, even the bridge pickup has a relative fatness to it, making it very usuable.

Thanks Custom Shop and Jason for creating a guitar I hope to keep hold of for a long time! :D

...Oh and thanks to Doug at Coda Music also, for allowing me to trade in some used gear for this fabulous instrument

Thanks guys! :)

No regrets so far! One of the guitars that made way was Mabel though...

She was my #1 but the logic of it was pretty simple.

She was a teambuilt NOS version of the '63 dealer select run Coda do and I felt strongly I'd be trading up going for a masterbuilt reliced version from the same '63 dealer select run. Just love the specs on these.

Think they're are maybe 60-70 guitars in the run so far (they keep ordering more) but this was one of only 2 masterbuilt lefties. The other was a Shishkov NOS that sold pretty quick.

I 'get' the whole masterbuilt phenomenon now. Masterbuilt lefties dont show up too often (Yes, you can custom order whenever but I've not the patience lol) Kind of felt she was destined for me when I saw her all those months ago!

Sure, it's a Teambuilt 'Clapton' Strat, standard spec apart from the black body paint where I've gone for a super thin finish (nitro too) for quicker natural relicing.

Thanks man! I think Jason Smith does some fantastic aging on his guitars, from the ones I've seen. 8)

I know some people hate relics but my dream guitar (Like a lot of people!) would be an early 60s sunburst strat. Nothing looks cooler to me than a 60s strat thats been well played but loved aswell. For me, this is as close to my dream guitar as I'll likely get!

First time I saw it I thought it looked pretty close to how a vintage 60s strat looks today. Aged but not over the top. There is a lot going on with the finish. Lots of fine checking that wont even show up on a photo!

I used to get turned off by relics as, at one point, they were over the top and I hated all the rust on the hardware. Seems these last couple of years they've toned it down as the hardware has a tiny bit of rust but its mostly just dulled and tarnished, which is what the bridge and saddles etc look like on most vintage pieces I've seen.

Nice! :D

I've always wanted a Clapton strat. Obviously they don't make them lefty tut, so the only way to go is with a custom order!

Make sure you post a report and pics on here when it finally arrives. I'd love to see it!

Cheers. Yeah I love the ECs, I've had three over the years (got the first Black one in 1995). I have a few pics of those HERE They're all Masterbuilt - Black is Gene Baker, Gold is Yuriy and White is Todd.

That gold one is a real looker!

I've never been a big fan of the look of lace sensors, though I've always heard people speak highly of them tonally.

Did you go with vintage noiseless this time around?
