Received my custom order 60s Strat. Sweet guitar. Team built. Ordered November 2011 with a 8-10 month delivery estimate. Received in May. So a six month delivery.

Congrats !!!! :)

My Team Built order (ordered officially in mid september 2011 at my Fender dealer, Fender says it was ordered in mid october) with a quoted delivery time of 6-8 month has (after two "official" delivery dates given by Fender) not arrived yet.

Not sure how they work out the orders. Maybe they assign different spec guitars to different builders with varying waiting times?

Forget what I've said - it's your thread :)

Your new guitar looks nice and it's played the "right" way :D

No problem. Always interested to hear about other people's experience. I have a feeling this is not my last Custom Shop order. This could get addictive, especially for us lefties!

Very nice! 8)

I have a teambuilt '60 in vintage white.

What specs did you order on this beauty?

Looks like a quarter-sawn maple neck???

Neck is AA flame. Can't see it on that pic. Will take pics of the back when I got better light.

Got the 1965 C neck profile. N3 noiseless pickups. Thin poly finish. Went with poly as I don't want the yellowing of nitro.

Only thing I want different is pickup covers with no N3 logos. Can't find pickup cover replacements though for the N3s. Standard Fender covers don't fit.

I do like a nicely flamed maple neck. You gotta love that '65 C shape though! I have it on both my '60 and my '63 masterbuilt. Perfect shape for me!

I didnt realise N3 covers were slightly different than standard?! How do you like the N3s??

I haven't played them, but I do have an Am Dlxe with the SCNs in and I quite like them, very ballsy but still straty to my ears and no hum is cool too.

The N3 pickup magnets are not in the exact same position as the standard pickups. They sound good. Overall they sound slightly more mid rangey / less scooped than the pickups on my Custom Shop '56 with vintage reissue pickups. Doing some recordings I managed to match the tone pretty closely of the two guitars with some EQ on the N3 recording.

I was thinking originally to put in some Kinman impersonator '54s but I'm not sure if they would actually be an improvement over the N3s.

The 65 C is indeed a nice profile.

But I have had a similar experience like you have had now -

in 2009 I got my teambuilt 57' PBass after 2,5 month :) (and it was quoted 6-8 month)

My Master Built Jazz Bass came exactly after 8 month (in 2009 - I have ordered the P and the JB together as a pair) and now my 62 teambuilt comes later than quoted

I guess it's not that easy for them to estimate delivery time precisely. Too many variables I gather. 2.5 months is really quick!

Just to let you know - I HAD to join this forum once I saw your guitar! its wonderful!

Im a lefty from Australia - and this is also my dream guitar! I would have done everything the same.... but being a lefty, i haven't had much of an opportunity to test different pickups....

What made you chose your pickups over some 50s or 60s ones? what other contenders were considered?

love your taste 8)

Hi jamoo,

I chose the N3 pickups for the low noise feature (love vintage strat pickup tone, hate the noise). I'm thinking of putting in some Kinman Impersonator 54s, as those might the best noiseless pickups out there for my taste.

Unfortunately, since I posted this thread, it came to light that the finish on the guitar, which I ordered in thin poly, is actually nitro!..... Been in touch with Fender on this issue and they offered to replace the guitar, this time (presumably) as spec'ed. Very disappointed with this situation. This is a fine guitar but they simply did not deliver it as spec'ed. Now I've been hesitant to go through another custom order, as to be honest, I'm not entirely confident they would deliver what I ordered...

So I'm considering keeping it as is, as it really sucks to have to return an otherwise fine guitar.

Thanks for the info! Sorry to hear about your guitar....

I never fully understood the differences in the finish... is it that the nitro finish will 'yellow' with age? Or is it more to do with the resonance and 'breathing' of the wood?

Regarding whether or not your should return it.... im sure Fender wont mess you around twice, if thats what you choose to do...

If i were you? If the guitar plays and sounds to your liking - I wouldn't exchange it unless the white is going to yellow.... ive got an 04 US Standard oly white strat (which is naturally a more yellow'y white) - and maybe its a case of "the grass is always greener", but I LOVE that vintage WHITE WHITE look (especially with your parchment/mint green combo)... the last thing you want is for the yellowing to be a constant reminder of this mess up and taint your enjoyment of this beautiful guitar :)
