Nine years ago I ordered a Master Built one-off Tele which was superbly built by Senior Master Builder Todd Krause. At the time it cost $3,500.00 plus tax.

After looking at the current CS price list and adding up the base price plus the Master Builder fees (to include the extra $1,000 for the 24 month wait time for TK) and all features I spec'd, if I had the piece built today it would cost around $10K.

Just think what she'll be worth in another ten years...or 40 years. Of course the true appreciation I have for the guitar is the sound, tone and incredible craftsmanship.

Bonjour Alain,

Nice to hear from you again as well! Thanks for posting the link to the article about my Tele.

Yes, I still have her and would never part with it. It will go to my daughter after old Dad is no longer around to play it, which I hope is many years from now. One day she will own a vintage FCS Master Built one-off and I'm sure Todd's name on the back of the headstock will add to it's provenance.

I can't even begin to imagine the value of your Custom Shop collection. You have two of Todd's art guitars, the Hibiscus Telecaster and his second Koicaster, two incredible works of art.

Au revoir mon ami,
Kevin

She still looks the same 9 years later except the frets are getting worn down from a whole lotta string bending. Got a couple of minor dings on the body too, she's a relic now.

If you really want to get an eye full Alain should post pics of his Hibiscus Tele and Koicaster that Todd Krause designed. Now those are something to see!

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for sharing the story. I really enjoyed reading how the master built process evolved when your guitar was built. That guitar looks just inanely awesome. A very unique looking Tele.
Thanks!

Thanks Opienor, appreciate the compliment. Of course all I did was write the specs down on paper, Todd Krause did the hard work. He chose a stunning piece of Quilted Maple for the top and the matching headstock veneer. You can't see it in the photo but the neck is a lightly figured Flame Maple with a Flame Maple cap, no skunk stripe. The core body is a one piece spread of Select Alder which is finished in transparent Amber like the top which gives it the appearance of being Mahogany. It has white pearl binding on the top to match the guard and tuning machine buttons.

It's certainly not a classic traditional Tele, white blonde or butterscotch with a blackguard. It still retains a few vintage features, 21 fret butt adjust truss rod neck and Todd did the 4ply Pearl guard with a vintage 5 hole mounting, a cleaner look with fewer mounting screws. Everything else is modern. Seymour Duncan pickups, Hot Rhythm at the neck and a Hot Rails in the bridge.

Teles dress up real nice don't they!

You're right about that Butterscotch! There's nothing sweeter than a 1952 Butterscotch/Blackguard Tele, my dream guitar....a real, vintage one. You could get 4 or 5 of my Tele for the price of one of those.
