Hello all,

I am aware that a guitar's tremolo block has a large impact on the sustain and tone of the instrument...Indeed, I've already replaced the standard tremolo block on my custom shop Charvel guitar which has Floyd Rose trem with a "big brass" trem block and have heard a significant improvement in tone, punch and sustain...!

I am wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to do the same thing to my '60's custom shop stratocaster...?! I have read that some Fender trem blocks are made out of zinc and others from steel...

Does anyone know what the custom shop (vintage spec) trem blocks are made out of ???

Are they steel or zinc? Steel seems to be better,...and more vintage correct,...but, of course, I guess it comes down to personal preference as far as the tone is concerned...?!

I have purchased my Floyd Rose "big block" from Floydrose upgrades (please delete of inappropriate) and they now offer a "big brass" block for US-made stratocasters...Is it worth giving it a try...?

I appreciate your expert opinion.

Thanks. Peace.

Vintage blocks (USA) are made out of 1018 CRS (cold rolled steel) just like they were (on the same machines in fact, and by hand) as they were in 1954.

Don't believe what you read. Most of it is "snake-oil" propaganda in my opinion.

Thank you very much for your kind and informative reply Mike !!!

I trust your expert opinion more than what I read on the net...hence my question to you on this forum.

Glad to hear that today's blocks are still made the same way the original guitars were made in the '50's.

Peace,

Alexis.
