Hi y'all -

I just bought a used 2009 1960 Strat relic from a Guitar Center. It's a color ive wanted for a long time (surf green). I love the 60's relic pickups ( I used to own an olympic white over SB with the same config - stupidly sold it)-

anyway - i requested the specs from Fender - The GC was in Colorado so i am guessing the guitar originally came from Wildwood due to it's has a AA flame neck and a Madagascar board..

the only surprise is that the case is a black tolex Ive never seen before - no G&G logo - small fender badge near handle - very nice red interior - however the handle is a molded plastic - and the compartment case has velcro to keep it closed (no strap) - i was expecting the brown tolex - this one feels less solid but it looks very cool - quite vintage

Any idea what year/line it goes with ( I assume not custom shop)
thx - Andrew

My USA Lone Star Strat which I bought new in 1997 came exactly with such a case.

i like the look of it - however - it is lesser quality than your typical cases that go with
custom shop - they didnt disclose this and plus the neck is too slim for me - so those things combined - i will look for a different one - thx

I worked with the colors ... it's still not really surf green.

Cheers

David

Look, that's the pic after editing:

David? Not sure why you bothered with that exercise. You are correct though - the color you came up with is not surf green. The guitar I have in possession is classic surf green. Trust me. Camera shots often skew the color blue..

regards

Andrew

Andrew ... it's my favorite color and of course I have a Surf Green CS guitar too. You're right, it's quite hard to get the right color out of a picture. I guess yours is a very faded Nitro finish?

Why don't you just get the right case for it?

Cheers

David

thanks david - I would do that but the seller (Guitar Center) wont reduce the price which they should really do since its about $150 for the correct case

Hi,

First and foremost: how is the guitar ? does it match your expectation ? Should be THE crucial thing here, right ?

Now concerning the case...Was it a brand new deal or pre-owned ? If it's new it should have come with the right case and you should be able to get it from GC - unless it was specified otherwise for some reason. If it is pre-owned what was specified concerning the case ? if you had no info can you figure out if it is reflected in the price you paid in some way. Anyway you should be able to sort out that case issue independently of the guitar if it's a keeper.

Now if there is something you don't like about the guitar itself it is obviously another story.

my 2 cents...

Funny ... maybe they just grabbed the wrong case? I know it's not always easy to keep track of which guitar belongs to which case. Is it a new guitar? Or used?

Look, that's mine:

Yours should be put into a brown one, I think. And now you'll also understand the reason why I doubted the Surf Green.

Cheers

Pre-owned. the neck is a bit slim for me .790 first fret - .930 12th - In addition, the price they sold it at did not reflect an inferior case. GC doesnt even believe its the wrong case
when the fender spec sheet clearly states that.

thx

In my understanding, the case is an extra, not an intrinsic part of a guitar, especially not for a pre-owned one. And not a very important one. I'm almost tempted to give you mine, but shipping from Europe will be more expensive than a new case you'd buy in the US. Ah, and btw: do you have the official specs from Fender for this guitar? Did you check the serial? Can you quote them here?

Cheers

David

its been returned so it's a bit of a moot point. as far as the idea of a case being "extra" would you pay the same for a custom shop in a cheap gig bag versus the correct case. Again - if the price reflected that I wouldnt have had a problem - it wasnt and they didnt disclose it.
