there is one on ebay for about $6800, and others cheaper than $8800, have you shopped around a bit? it's based on Buddy's '55, looks like a cool guitar, but are you looking at it just as an investment?

If you want to invest, buy shares with the advice of a pro.
If you want to buy a great guitar with mojo go on with that one; value increases?, great , not ? you still have a great guitar you can enjoy on a daily basis.
The $ 6 800 one is a second hand without any lifetime guarantee from Fender.
Why do people still buy cars although they know that the instant they leave the car dealer they lose 20% ?

Man, if I had the coin I would pick one of these up. To me, and imho, they are works of art.
To play, appreciate, and not to mention decorate your home.

That guitar looks beautiful. I am a huge Holly fan, and when I saw this, I was like dam......
Getting his widow's blessing was a very nice touch, and to have her autograph is also very cool.

It took me 4 years to save up for Gilmour Relic that I have wanted since the day it came out. I am finally getting one next week.

I really envy you guys that are picking one of these up!!

Rave on!

I agree, if I had that kind of $$$ I would love to have one , as you said to play and enjoy, but not just as an investment though, IMHO.

There is one detail that isn't accurate that bother me off ( String Tree placement) ... for value wise it wont be like and SRV #1 for sure because there is still a lot of them for sale all SRV #1 were sold at the Namm and after value has rise up to 35 k$ ( MRSP was 15K$)

There is also still some lenny that were never sold .

I have the money to buy it but the string tree misplacement prevent me to buy it ... I had modified my '57 reissue instead

no offense, but if you think the string tree placement was off, and this detail turned you off, how would a modified 57' reissue even be close to Buddies 55'?

mine is a Dennis Galuzska, and yes the 54' mb is very close to Buddy's 55' mb, but as a fan, it would be great to own.

The string tree on the BH Strat is on normal position that was on 1950's strat ... But buddy holly got an strat that wasn't assemble to the standard position . Perhaps an newly hired employee or someone that final assemble liked the look here an 1956 found on GBase :

I was not surprized to get my 54' mb with the string tree that far back, as I have seen plenty of pics of original 54', 55', and 56' strats with the same, under the A string or as mine even toward the low E string side of the A tuner.

If I were lucky enough to have the spare cash to buy one of these, I would not be the slightest bit concerned about whether the string tree was "correctly" placed or out by a quarter inch! I'll bet it is still fitted by hand, exactly as it was done back then, and there will be small variations in placement, and that in itself is period correct!

Life is too short to spend it staring at your headstock!
