Just got the news from my dealer that the guitar should be here in a little over a week. It is being "processed" which he said means it is finished and getting ready to ship. He told me a couple of days ago it should be here in 10 days or so. Ordered in mid March so about a 7 month wait.

Very reasonable in those days... :D
Keep us informed.

Mike said it's take about 20 months to finish (Todd is the builder)

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I remember ME commenting on one of the threads that, if all possible, and you want to save time, have another MB do your guitar. Seems I remember two years as being an expected wait for a Krause-built instrument. Your doing pretty well considering. I had teambuilt guitar done maybe 6+ years ago and it took 18 mos.

Picked up and paid for my custom shop order on October 20 and unfortunately had to return it to the dealer on the 25th. There is a difference of opinion between myself and the dealer on what shape the neck was to be. While the guitar was made 100 percent according to the spec sheet (and it was) the neck ordered was not the guitar neck I thought I asked for. I had asked for a neck that was a duplicate of a red one on their shelf, and a slightly different one was ordered from another guitar. I was unfamiliar with the neck shapes available obviously. What was ordered turns out to be a "soft v" neck, while what I had wanted turns out to be a "c" shaped neck, same as a 1960's one that I thought I asked for and almost identical to the 62 reissue I have. There were 2 red ones on the dealers shelf, I thought I asked for the 60's one and the neck from the other one appears to have been entered on the order sheet. The neck, while nice is virtually unplayable (by me) as it is too big and uncomfortable for me to play.

So the guitar is back at the dealers and new one with identical specs (but a "c" shaped neck) has been ordered. Probably another 7 or so month wait. In the interim, I'm out the 3400 dollars the guitar cost me.

Welcome to the club. I had a similar issue on that guitar I spoke of. Given the nature of my order, they based the guitar on a '65 Stratocaster because I had ordered a 22 fret rosewood board, but specified a Clapton neck carve. What they sent me was a '65 Stratocaster with a period correct neck profile. I sent it back for a new neck and waited another 8 mos for the guitar. It came with a neck more in the profile of their generic soft v[ ex: Classic Player '50's]- rather than the Clapton which has a much slimmer taper. There is a neck called the 10/56 which is an even chunkier V-neck than the generic. You'll find it on the new American Vintage '56 and they seem to be using it quite a bit on some of the Custom Shop guitars coming down the pike. Several years later I had the chance to talk to one of the masterbuilders about the glitch and he suggested that the rosewood board may have influenced the final contours and feel of the neck. Well, the Clapton actually has a maple board laminated to the neck to achieve the 22 fret configuration and the neck profile is right. so I'm not buying that suggestion. From now on its 21 fret solid maple necks on everything. I don't see the big deal about an extra fret on these guitars. Hope your end result is to your liking. Everything else about the guitar was flawless.

It was very nice. A very solid and well made guitar. The closet classic finish was not what I expected. I thought it would be was like a NOS finish, nice and shiny but with paint shrinkage and checking. Like it was just made, put in the case under the bed for 40 years, although it was nice looking. Unfortunately, I have to wait as the dealer has both my original full payment in cash and the guitar.

That's most unfortunate. I would have thought that, considering the error was caused by the dealer, not the CS, they would have offered to refund your payment, less a deposit perhaps, until the new guitar arrived.

IMO both of these stories are a total nightmare and one of the perils of ordering a CS guitar the way the system is set up... plus having to wait another 7 months+ for the correct neck shape is inexcusable... To the OP, didn't you check the order sheet for the specs or was it not shared with you?

You would have thought but the dealer, while they are ordering another guitar, will not actually admit it was their error. And neither will I. I think they thought I said the (other) red one on the rack when I made the initial order and I simply said the order sheet was correct when they asked me to confirm as I had no knowledge of what a C or a V neck was. I would not have ordered the neck on the guitar as it was too uncomfortable from the start. Bigger than my Les Paul Custom and my other fender. From their point of view, they now have a guitar they have to sell which they did not order for their stock so no refund in the interim. I can sort of see their point but they are sitting on my 3400 dollars. I paid cash so I can't go to my credit card company and I have a piece of paper saying I am owed a guitar that is ordered that is paid in full. But I'm an unsecured creditor if anything happens, financially to the store. I'm not overly pleased about this.

I never saw the order sheet for my guitar. My guitar was a total no-brainer. It was a modified Clapton..dark SB3 finish like the SRV guitar, SCN pickups, rosewood board, medium jumbo frets, vintage gold hardware, all black plastic parts including pup covers and the neck carve should have been a Clapton. Instead I get a guitar whose COA reads 1965 Stratocaster.

Yes I did and it all was fine as far as I could see. I had simply asked that the neck would be the same as the red one on the wall and they wrote down a serial number and stated soft v. With regards to the serial number, I did not write down the number for my records and as stated earlier, I was not familiar with soft v or c. I simply said I wanted the one on the wall. They took it to be a different one. The one I liked was a smaller profile neck like my les paul custom and my other strat. In the meantime, my 3400 dollars is elsewhere and all I have is a piece of paper saying I am owed a guitar that has been ordered and I guess (and hope) I'll have it in 7 months or so.

There's no doubt you'll have the guitar. Just inconvenienced by the additional wait.
