Ordered my first custom shop 69 closet classic strat a couple of weeks ago from my local Custom Shop dealer. It is pretty much the usual standard build but with a quartesawn neck with vintage tint. The wait time I was told is 5 months. It is a regular Custom shop build, not a masterbuild.

While I am stoked about the guitar and ordered one from my local reputable dealer rather than take my chances buying online unseen and used, but is this wait time to receive the guitar what it usually takes? Does the Custom Shop deliver in less time usually for what is a pretty much stock offering?

Heck, that seems like a pretty short wait time to me. I ordered a Teambuilt last year and was given an 8-9 month wait. Some of the people ordering Masterbuilt guitars have a 3+ year wait ahead of them, depending on the Masterbuilder. 5 months should fly by. The most often given advice around here seems to be that once you place your order, it's best to try not to think about it. Then the day finally comes, and it's almost a surprise.

I've just been quoted 5-8 months for a Teambuild order I've placed.

I ordered a team-build last July and was quoted six months. It arrived early February, so it was very close to the quoted wait time.

When you order a masterbuilt, the wait could be years...

Just ordered a Surf Green Nocaster with a set of Twisted Tele pickups, to be built by Paul Waller. His ETA's are running at 10 months right now.

I ordered mine in June of last year (though Greg Fessler and I started cooking up the idea at Winter NAMM last January) and it is in the final stages (painting/relic'ing/final assembly) so that puts it at about 10-12 Months for Greg. It honestly flew by quickly and we were emailing back and forth monthly on everything.

Can the custom shop give you ETA updates during the time you wait for your order (on team built instruments) so as to better estimate the arrival date?

Yeah they can! for example in my last communication with Greg, he suspected the guitar will be ready to go by May. VERY exciting.

I'm in the middle of an 18 month to 2 year wait that is driving me batty! But I wanted who I wanted to build it, so I knew what I was getting into.

Still though!

It will be worth it, though.

The quality of the Team Built guitars has definitely improved, as they pulled back the production volume and emphasized limited.

But there is still something about the Master Built guitars that sets them apart.

That sounds promising. How do I go about doing this down the road? Do I communicate directly with the CS or through my dealer in regards to the Teambuilt I ordered?

Hy,

three years ago I have ordered a Master Built Jazz Bass with no specific request for a special Master builder (because that could last up to 3 years) but I really hoped that Dennis Galuszka would build it  (also my dealer requested with the order that it would be nice if Dennis Galuszka could do it  )- I got the quote of 6-8 month and the Bass arrived two days before the end of month number 8 and it was built by Dennis Galuszka  :D - this Bass is just the most incredible Bass that I've ever had. My Bass for life. Just plug it in and it sounds great in any situation....
