Hi Guys newbie on here, can anybody give me some advice please,
I am looking to purchase a pre owned C/S "56" NOS Strat in mint condition, now the guitar looks perfect and correct, usual stuff all gold hardwear with locking tuners, single ply 8 hole scratchplate, AA birdseye maple neck but I cant find the S/N on the headstock I have 2 USA Std Strats in my collection and they have the S/N is on the back of the headstock.
The only S/N I can find is on the neck plate which is gold and has the regular "V" custom shop logo engraved in it and the S/N is also engraved on it and it looks factory .this also matches the info on the C.O.A which also looks genuine with raised lettering and correct colours. should the S/N be anywhere else without having to disassemble the thing to look in the neck pocket which I cant really do before I purchase it.

Any help with this would be really great
I know you guys are pretty well clued up on this stuff, and as I live in the UK the time difference between England and the U.S.A makes it hard to get a reply from Leo and Co
so if you can help a girl out would be cool
thanks guys

1st off, locking tuners? a CS 56' should have vintage kluson style tuners, serial # should be on the neck plate, usually starting with R(custom shop logo should be on the back of headstock) . pics would really help, if possible ask the seller to include pic of neck pocket/ neck heel, and under the pickgaurd.I just added a couple pics below of my 56' NOS.

Hi my56strat,
thanks for the info, yes it does have custom shop logo on the back of the headstock as well as the the S/N engraved on the neck plate and matching COA same S/N but your info on the sperzel locking tuners got me thinking so as I cant ask the guy to tear it down I think I might try to get some info from the CS just in case they did make a batch like this,if the answer is a no..then I will take your advice and give this a miss
thanks honey you have been a great help. :D

If the serial number on the neck plate and the COA match, that's a good start, and the gold hardware could indicate a custom order, with the locking tuners part of that custom order.
If the seller is the original owner of the guitar, they should know if it was custom ordered or not. Some of the stores will order stuff for themselves like that too, but they would make a point of advertising it as a "custom order!"

You could contact consumerrelations@fender.com, but the response time may be somewhat variable depending on the workload!
