Hi guys. I tried searching for info on this, but couldn't find anything referencing the Custom Shop instruments. If I missed it, let me know. Does anyone here shield their CS instruments, especially the Time Machine series? Is it a worthwhile modification, or is it often better to leave the instruments in their original condition and use a noise gate instead?

Can't speak for all Custom Shop guitars, but my 2011 Custom Deluxe wasn't screened from new. I used conductive paint for the job and it did improve the noise overall, but the single coil pickups will always mean there's a certain amount of care needed in electrically noisy environments.

For the price of a CS shouldn't they already be shielded? Why wouldn't they be?

My John Page era CS is shielded. I don't know why they stopped but I would guess it's one of those "vintage accurate" obsession things.
