Is there a way to tell if this is genuine?

Sorry, we try to fix that ASAP
Try Explorer or Chrome if FF doesn't work.

I'm using IE8 and Safari 5.1.2 at the moment. None of these browsers didn't work.

PING guitarmotel.com (213.186.33.4): 56 data bytes

--- guitarmotel.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

Can you show this to your son? I think 213.186.33.4 does not resolve to your web directory. The server then comes back with 500. Maybe ovh.net is able to help.

Cheers

David

Alain, nice pic. How do you like yours? How do you like the ebony fingerboard (I'm assuming it's ebony but I could be wrong)? Does the set neck give your strat a different tone or feel?

I have emailed the seller for more details but got no response yet. It's a Los Angeles listing and I am in Phoenix. If everything is as listed I'd be willing to drive out and check it out. The price seems fair to me but I'm no expert.

Sweet Strat. Is the quilt top a veneer or solid all the way through?

I remember when a friend of mine bought his back in '94. I owned an '87 Strat plus and he loved how it felt and sounded. He ended up trading his SG for it. It was a really beautiful playing Strat.

Sadly though, I recently caught up with him and asked how the old Strat was doing and he told me that the fret board separated from the neck. He had it repaired, but it didn't hold.

He still plays Strat though.

It's a veneer.

That's what I thought. The veneer always looks great on the front, but I never like the look on the back. Fender could take a page from Ibanez. A buddy of mine had an Ibanez super Strat style guitar that was veneer top and back. The veneer was so thin that is could be applied like paper. This would make a laminate top and back look like a solid piece of wood. I realize that my description is not very clear, but trust me it looks better than the style Fender did in the '90s.
