I've been looking at the video of the 2012 Custom Deluxe Strat on the new Custom Shop channel on Youtube. It looks and sounds lovely and it was interesting to compare it to my own 2011 version of the guitar. The maple front makes it look a bit different to my 3TS ash version, and it's certainly very pretty :-)

One thing I did notice is that the headstock of the new guitar has a string tee. My 2011 wasn't fitted with one and initially I had problems with the high E jumping out of the nut slot when I played energetically. After consulting Mike Eldred on these forums I fitted a USA Deluxe tee: solved the problem and to my mind, made the guitar look finished.

So now the 2012 model has one fitted, too. Wonder if other people had been having the same problem as me?

Totally had the same problem with my 2011 CS CD. Whenever you get to wailin' the high e takes a hike. It's all over the net. I just installed a string tree, and it seems to have solved the problem. At least Mike Eldred is honest on the featured videos when he says, "we're just trying some new things..." with the CS CD guits. They got it right on the EJ strat. If you look at that headstock of the EJ it's substantially thinner wood stock than other strats. (For some reason, I thought it look terrible.) This of course increases the string angle. As I recall (having sold mine), they also have staggered tuners, so that model may be able to get away without a string tree. Not so, on the 2011 CS CD unless you plan to play Mel Bay on thorazine. Well, at least on the 2012, they added a string tree. Just picked mine up yesterday. She's a bute! :P
