Hey guys.

I've had som issues with the bridge pickup on my 60's ltd ed. Tele I bought this summer.

It squeals like a pig when playing over living room volume. I hoped I could live with it, but now I realize I can't. :(

Is something like that covered by the Custom Care Extended warranty on electric components?

All the best.

Rasmus.

What if you lower the pickup a bit?

Read here: http://www.300guitars.com/articles/elim ... elecaster/

Cheers

Hey David, thx for the reply.

I think I've narrowed it down to the bridgeplate. It seems the squealing stops when I press down on it(A friend helped me, playing the guitar meanwhile).

So the next step must be to assembly it properly to the body, like recommended in the article you linked to.

But I don't know what rubber glue means in danish, but hopefully someone can help me with that.

Maybe it's possibly to use something else, like som kind of layer of thin foam, paper or something.

Before you go slathering glue all over an expensive guitar, I suggest you contact Fender first and ask about a warranty repair. Did you register with Custom Care?

Yes I did register with the custom care. It's also under a year since I bought the guitar.

I was hoping maybe Mike would have suggested me what to do.

It would be alot easier and I would feel much better if a Authorized fender dealer could fix it.

History has shown that Mike's advice when a question like this is asked would be to contact the selling dealer or Fender. Common sense says the same thing.

Usually the dealer where you bought the guitar is the first contact.

Cheers

Yeah, but I bought the guitar at a GC in the US, and I'm resident in Europe, and it seems that the Custom Care provides worldwide service.

So it might be faster to get in touch with the Scandinavian department of Fender, instead of going trough Guitar Center. :)

It's obviously not practical to get the guitar back to GC to check it out, but if you've been in touch with consumerrelations@fender.com, they might well ask your local Fender office to get in touch with you, so that it can be dealt with locally.

There are a few reasons why a bridge pickup squeals, and a vibrating bridge plate is only one. The pickup itself may not have soaked in sufficient wax when "potted" and have an empty space that causes it to be microphonic, or also a gap between the pickup base and the elevator plate can make it squeal sometimes, so several things might need checking out!

Update;
The guitar now has been sent to Sweden for the Service Center there to fix it.

Can't wait to get it back. :D

Good news; Guitar was fixed really quick. It think they potted it.
Bas news; It wasn't treated very well under shipping, so it has someway got a series of dents round where the arm rests.
It seems to be UPS that banging it around.

Not a big deal, but still it's really annoying that someone wasn't careful. It could have been a much more expensive guitar or the owner could have been more itchy about it.
I don't mind dings on my guitars, I just prefer to put them there myself.

PS: I tried a small amount of rubber cement under the bridgeplate, and it took the laquer right off! SO DONT USE IT ON YOUR GUITARS!!!! Even though the artikle says so.
