Jim, my '65 is CS too, not a vintage original. Great sounding and playing guitar.
I'm guessing the pups in the new guitar are 60's, or similar, while the '65 pups are different sounding and are wound AFAIK with different wire!

Not enough vintage chat on these forums I've noticed!

Agreed: a fourth section could be opened in "Fender Guitars" : "vintage guitars", a lot of specific things to discuss: dating, maintenance, sound, spare parts, setting etc...

I've popped a little trem spring (with a dab of vaseline) down the trem arm hole, so that now can be set without flopping, as it did at first. Some like floppy trem arms, but I don't!

Could you explain how you did this, and to what extent it worked? Will you be able to get it out again? My new '60 NOS Strat also has too much wiggle room between the block and the trem arm.

I really love the rosewood fretboard on mine. It's really dark and dense looking.

I have a pack of these Fender springs... http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/imag ... 31-000.jpg

and they are designed to pop into the trem arm hole and compress when the arm is screwed in. If you put a blob of vaseline on the spring, it doesn't fall out of the hole when you remove the arm, but you can still "fish" it out with a very small screwdriver or suchlike tool.
Many people use a bit of plumber's teflon tape to wind around the threads of the arm, and then screw it in, and that works well too. Even a piece of thread dangled in the hole, and then the arm screwed in will work! :)

Arrived tonight! Here's a quick pic that doesn't really do it justice, as it looks much better in reality.

Looks sweet and HBD!

Ah, so the '62 was the original? but you no longer own it, right??

Both those sets of pickups are great. I have the 65s in the '63 and some 60s in my '60. Probably prefer the 65s as they are abby wound and seem to have a bit more about them.

Absolutely! I'm not a member there but I spend as much time reading over at the les paul forum. They have a vintage section and its really cool to see peoples 50s bursts and goldtops & the stories and the discussions on them. People running threads on converting '52s to '59s etc. Really insightful.

Be nice to see that here!

Thanks all!

Kudos must go to the Custom Shop for yet another example of excellence. When I thanked the dealer for the guitar, he said that everything coming out of the Custom Shop these days is superb! :D
