One day next week will be a NGD! The dealer, Coda Music, is shipping it Monday.
If it arrives Wednesday it will be a great present as it's my birthday. No planning for that though, just pure coincidence! It was ordered last July.
50 years ago I bought my first Strat (yes, I am that old) but of course I don't have that guitar any more, and so, finally, I've got round to getting a replacement.

It's a '62 Strat, Fiesta Red, slab rosewood board with a '65 neck shape, 9.5 radius, medium jumbo frets, and Abby pups.

The wait is almost over! :D

Awesome news mate! You'll get it Tuesday, of course, as they send via next day but I guess you could TRY and hold out til Wednesday before opening the case

Love the specs you've ordered. '65 C is my favourite neck shape right now and if you're abby pups are as nice as the ones in my '63 you're going to be well pleased! Did you go for NOS or Relic???

Its no secret I love those guys at Coda though. Emailed Doug the other week to send me a list of all the CS lefties they've got on order (Couple of nice '55s due around summer!)

The night before I was watching Mark Knopfler rocking his '61 fiesta red/rosewood neck strat from 1980.

I told Doug, quite cheekily, that he needed to order a '61 red strat for us lefties as I never see any red custom shops for us lot. He spec'd one out straight away and threw it in with a bunch of lefty 62 teles he'd planned to order!

So I need to keep an eye out for when that bad boy comes into the shop 8)

Arrived tonight! Here's a quick pic that doesn't really do it justice, as it looks much better in reality.

Very nice! 8)

Have you managed to spend any time with it yet??

How's that neck feel? If you've plugged it in, how are those pick ups??

Congrats!

I haven't had a chance to compare the neck with my '65, but it looks and feels identical, even to the extent of having a round-lam board. Now I just expected to get a slab board, but the round-lam is what my original '62 had, and I'm delighted! There is a difference in playing feel, as my '65 has a 7.25 radius, and this one has 9.5, plus med. jumbo frets, so it is a player's dream...if only I were a better player! The board is very dark. As Doug told me when he inspected the guitar, it almost looks like ebony!

It's a tad heavier than my '65, and weighs in around 7.75 pounds. Not too light, not too heavy! I've popped a little trem spring (with a dab of vaseline) down the trem arm hole, so that now can be set without flopping, as it did at first. Some like floppy trem arms, but I don't!

Pickup evaluation, after wearing headphones at work for 38 years, is going to be "ball-park" at best, but I find them very balanced and even across the range. No spiky bridge pup here, just chimey goodness! Most of my Strats are modded to give a tone control on the bridge pup, but I don't think it will be necessary at all on this guitar! It has a 5 way switch already installed, and the in-between positions work extremely well too. Position 2 is as close to Knopfler's "Sultans of Swing" tone as I'll ever get. So, balanced and chimey sums them up!

Thank you, Custom Shop, for a very fine guitar! :D

Both my CS strats are 2010s bought from coda and they have nice dark fretboards too.
My CS 63 has a round lam board also and I like it.

Are the pickups 60s or 65s or something else?

What's the story with your 65 then? Have any pics you'd like to share??

Not enough vintage chat on these forums I've noticed!

I'd love to own a nice playing and sounding original 60s strat one day.
