Hi Guys,

Took delivery of a CS 60's relic during the week, all has been great.

just noticed then when I do full bends, ther's a clicking sound that I can't really work out where it's coming from, guitar is not plugged in. (I would guess the bridge area)

anybody else had a similar issue?

Thanks.

on which strings is it occurring? does your guitar go out of tune easily after some bending?

first thing that comes to mind is a non-lubricated string tree, if it's on the high E and B strings.

if it's happening everywhere, then I guess you should start by putting some lubricant on the saddles (and under the string tree anyway, always!).

personally I don't lubricate the saddles, I have never broken a string with my Strat, and nut + string tree are usually enough to make sure the guitar will stay in tune.

yes, it on the it's on the high E and B strings. When bending the bridge raises up, and the clicking occurs then. Half bends are okay, it's only on full bends it's doing it.

it appears to me that it's the raising of the bridge past a certain point that's doing it.

don't underestimate the importance of a lubricated string tree, it's the first cause of clicking/tuning problems, especially on Relic's, because the surface can be a bit rusty.

plus the fact that it's occurring only on the high E and B strings is enough to make the string tree a priority.

the bridge moving is perfectly fine, I guess it happens on any Strat with less than 4 springs on.

start with the string tree, you can get Big Bends Nut Sauce or the Planet Waves Lubrikit.
that kind of product will last you at least 2 years, it's really cheap, and useful with a lot of guitars.

Thanks for the advice, I will get some Planet Waves Lubrikit.

I put the trem arm on now, and I don't have to bend a string now to get the click. Just by pulling the trem arm up, the click occurs. There must be some contact with the bridge and the body somewhere..the click is coming from the bridge area.

start by putting lubricant under the string tree and on the saddles. this should get rid of the click.

if it's still happening once you have done that, then yeah, I guess there might be some sort of mechanical problem with the bridge that a tech will have to investigate.

lubricant under the string tree and on the saddles has not solved the issue so will be going back to get the set-up checked.

Couple of other issue's I've noticed, the volume control is very smooth but the 2 tone control's (especially the lower one) are not. Can these be easily fixed so they are smooth? Also when checking for the clicking, I noticed that the thread on one of the screws for the spring cover is not tighting up fully and just turns.

Are these common issues on the CS's that are easily resolved? Bearing in mind it had been purchased as new.

I would bet its the nut. im very familiar with the sound of a string getting caught up in the nut, releasing (click) caught again, and releasing

yeah, it can happen with the nut too so you should try some lubricant or graphite in there as well.

regarding your knob issue, yes, it can be fixed.
when I first took my Strat to a luthier, the knobs were a lot smoother when I got it back (I never use the tone controls though).

for the screw, there must be some kind of filler available, if you take it to a tech ask him.

if the issues are too serious and you just purchased the guitar, maybe it will go back to the Custom Shop, I don't know.

+ 1 on the nut and lubing it (as well as the string tree). Any graphite or Teflon (PTFE) lube will do - at less than half the cost of guitar products).

As for the pots: spray a tiny amount of WD-40 inside the pot and rotate it a few times. Problem most likely solved.

Try fixing the screw hole by applying super glue (a little!) inside the hole. Use a toothpick, guitar string - something thin and apply it on the walls inside the hole, so that the hole is not filled up entirely. To avoid spilling superglue on the outside of the hole, you can first apply a layer of lube or lipbalm to prevent the glue from sticking to the laquer. Give the glue at least 20 min. to dry before trying the screw. Repeat the process if necessary.

Take it back to the shop that you bought it and have them do the repairs at no cost to you... This should not happen on a new guitar....

Lubricate nut/string tree/saddles (you should do this) E & B nut may need a piece of 2000 grit sandpaper passed through the slot to remove a possible burr (folded or not depending on how you can get it through there - just a few passes). Also remove string tree and take same sandpaper wrapped around a pick and smooth the area underneath... there is a lot of rust there (IMO THEY SHOULD DO THIS AT THE CUSTOM SHOP BEFORE THE GUITAR IS SHIPPED OUT!!!).

Pots - have the shop do this

Screw hole - the superglue drop is the fix. very easy but you should not have to hassle yourself on a new expensive guitar...

Get this book for future reference http://www.amazon.com/Electric-Guitar-G ... mg_popover

Thanks for the advice, the guitar was returned for the set-up to be checked.

Pots issue and screw issue fixed.

Clicking did appear to be resolved but is intermittently returning.

When you lift your whammy bars up, do you get a clicking noise? This and full bends appear to cause the clicking noise.
