my custom shop 60' heavy relic came today, and ive been playing it for about 6 hours non stop! plugged/unplugged loud/quiet whatever you like ive tried it.
heres my review, bearing in mind im no strat expert.

the pickups.

Neck CS 69'
this pickup kicked my arse, amazed by it, it sounds brilliant straight into a cranked marshall, hendrix & trower tones are instant and almost unavoidable.
love this pickup so much.

middle CS fat 50'
i used to hate ALL strat middle positions, this has changed my mind 100%.
this is only just behind the neck in terms of sweetness in tone. when used in conjunction with the neck pickup it just sounds brilliant. pure SRV pride & joy Territory. love this pickup too!

Bridge Texas Special
hmm not impressed paticularly, sounds nice but i never really like ANY strat bridge tones, the only time i find it bearable is in the no 2 position with the middle. im spoiled by years of historic les paul bridge tones.

overall the guitar just sounds exactly like i wanted to and MORE!
i didnt expect the neck and middle to be so sweet sounding and the body just vibrates on certain chords, cant wait to practise with a full band.

Glad you like your new guitar. I have a 57 Relic with the same PU config that of course came with maple fretboard and in my case an Ash Body (which I prefer). Agree with your assessment of the PUs with one exception. The bridge PU is awesome. What lots of people fail to understand is that these PUS were designed by Leo to match the amps of the day. Don't know what kind of music you are playing but it can work for many types-think Rory, or Blackmore, Clapton.

Try a tweed amp with it and see if you still have the same opinion. It's the total signal chain. I used to share your opinion til I got a set of vintage tweed amps (57 Deluxe and 59 Champ) then I saw the light. In the end it's the signal chain(sorry to be redundant) you need to find.

Yeah I was blown away by the middle PU too. So much so that I have ordered it my next CS Order-with 'Standard' 50's PUS in the front and back to compliment the Fat middle.
