(Posted this on the Lounge first but the thread got hijacked)

I got an incredible deal on eBay of the perfect Strat I was looking for, a black Custom Shop NOS '69 Stratocaster with a maple neck (discontinued). Gets sent all the way to the local UPS facility, everything goes fine till Tuesday at 4 AM it was "Out for Delivery" to never show up. Got other stuff from UPS yesterday but not the guitar.

Seller already filed a claim and UPS are "tracing" it. I went to the facility tonight and asked for the item in person. "Oh, it says here that it got lost...we are already looking for it".

Now my question is how can a guitar get "lost".
I don't trust these guys, am I wrong in thinking someone at UPS liked my Strat too much?

I'm sure I'm not the only one going through this...what a frustrating experience. Anybody know the success rate of this "tracings"? Anybody got their guitar found by UPS after being "lost" for a few days?

Hopefully your guitar will show up! Things do get lost in shipping occasionally, and sometimes tracking shows "Out for delivery" when it is sitting in a corner of the depot!
No consolation, but as the sender has started a claim, they will be looking for it!

It's a busy time of year, and things can go wrong. Good luck!

I had an amp shipped to me by UPS about two years ago. It got "lost" after two days in the UPS system. According to the tracking result it never left the hub in Ontario CA. We filed a claim, UPS was working on the trace. Two days later it showed up at my door step. The UPS system never changed the status on the tracking. :?

Well it was about the same time, right around Christmas. I guess they are very busy and things are getting confused. I really hope your guitar will show up soon.

Damn that sucks. I get lot of stuff through USPS and they are terrible at updating tracking, many time they say the package was delivered on saturday but I dont get it until Monday. That's a bummer, beautiful guitar I'm sure, let's all keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks guys, it really helps knowing that these things can happen and not always for the bad reasons.
Hopefully it will be found soon, I'd like to hear from more people who got their items (or not) after UPS traced the package.

If it's any consolation, UPS are just as unreliable here in the UK. I bought a Custom Shop Strat earler this year and the dealer had it couriered by UPS. I checked the tracking online and it said it had been 'left at the front desk'. My house doesn't have a front desk, and even if it did, there was no one in to take delivery. I rang the depot and they confirmed it had indeed been left at the front desk, but they couldn't confirm which front desk they meant.

Getting seriously concerned that my £1800 guitar had disappeared for ever, I rushed home from work and found... no parcel. I rang UPS again and they tried to contact the driver, but he was off shift. When they eventually did reach him he said that 'left at front desk' was the standard delivery status that he always used and 'it didn't really mean anything'! When he was asked which house he'd delivered the parcel to, he said he could rememeber the road name (at least it was my road) but he hadn't a clue which house he'd left it at. Unvelievable!

Eventually after calling on all the neighbours I tracked the guitar down, no thanks to UPS.

So it's not just in the US - we get the same lousy service here, too :-)

Good news - the guitar showed up at the sellers house instead. God knows why this happened, I'm just glad it was not lost or stolen. Hopefully I'll have her here soon. I hate UPS...

If it's in good shape and all original it's got to be one of the best deals I got out of eBay along with my amp. Can't wait!
