Hello,

After testing some custom shop i'm planning to order a "masterbuilt"

but I would like to know wich one do you prefer and why. I know that all the fender master builders are really great, but I would like to know what make each master builder unique...

Also do you have any clue about masterbuilt delay?

Thanks for your time

Welcome to the Forum,

All are great.
Really great.
If you wonder about the Masterbuilt delay, you're for a painful trip

I had a chance to visit the custom shop recently and met Todd Krause, John Cruz, and Yuriy Shishkov. I got to play some of their recent creations. All three were extremely nice people with a sincere dedication to their work.

That said, of everyone, Yuriy was the most eager to talk guitars, wood, tone, craftsmanship techniques and so on. Everyone was very busy and as a craftsman myself I believe fully why someone wouldnt just set their tools down to talk about them with a complete stranger. But he did. It seemed as though even after years in the trade he was just as passionate about the instruments as he was when he first started. So, for that reason, I'd go with him

I work with (and most likely will always work with) Greg Fessler. I first met Greg out at NAMM this year, and he is one of the nicest guys you'll meet! he pays close attention to detail and has a definite passion for what he does! I traveled out to the shop back in Sept. to take a tour of the facilities with him and pick out the woods for my order (as well as taking a peek inside the recently opened Visitor Center) and I gotta say, he's one awesome dude. I know a lot of people always think of picking Cruz, Krause or Shiskov for their builds, but I think people need to give him a chance, and definitely give him as much credit/recognition they give the other guys. they won't be disappointed in choosing him!

Great thread!

I went with Todd because I liked the guitars he built and if it's good enough for Keef it's good enough for me. All joking aside it took me 6 months to decide which builder to go with.

Cwpainter,

When I ordered my tk mb I asked if it was possible to get a factory tour of the custom shop. I was told it was not possible so I would like to know how you managed a tour? I'm going to be at the namm show in Jan. and would love to take a custom shop tour. Any advice you can lend would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Gino

Gino,
Visit the new Fender Visitor Center in Corona, they do tours. I was there in late October, nice place and there were a few Masterbuilders running around the Visitor Center as well.

I'd think you'd agree with me that it had by far one of the smoothest playing necks ever. at least it was to me.

and in my case it was pretty much because of Greg that I got to see the shop.

Greg has recently revived the "international/jewel colour" legacy with two exquisite masterpieces, both being great-sounding Strat® guitars: a Blue Stratoburst Custom Classic C-Neck and a Capri Orange '62 Relic.

Have you already tried these beauties?

Don´t wanna be too picky, but Stratoburst was part of the Jewel Colors series ca. 1982-84. Anyway...cool colors!

I always liked Monaco Yellow and - like Alain - Capri Orange. Back then they came with black covers and knobs...

Mark Kendrick? The man who was chiefly responsible for the famous gold-leafed Custom Shop Strat used by Eric Clapton in the late 1990s?
