I took the plunge and put down a deposit for a Custom Shop team built '59 NOS Strat in 3-tone sunburst. My local custom shop dealer specs them with some modern touches - 9.5" fingerboard radius, large C neck, medium jumbo frets, and 5-way switch. Pickups are their spin on Texas Specials.

They tell me that scheduled delivery is some time in March, possibly later. I'll be counting the days!

Any idea what the typical build time is for a Custom Shop strat? That is, will my order sit in a queue until a few weeks or so before delivery and then be assembled? Or does it take several months to gather the parts and slowly go through the build steps? I'm curious if the wood for my Strat is sitting in a bin ready to go at this point or it's not even a gleam in the builder's eye?

Best advice we can give you Grasshopper, particularly coming from Master. Last one I ordered took a total of 18 months, the last 6 of which was due to the need for a return for correction of the neck carve.

Unfortunately, the only piece close to what he ordered is a Masterbuilt.

Nice. I wonder if his guitar will come with a custom embroidered case. They all should. Mine didn't.

Those guitars at Wildwood are nice but ZZDoc is right - I can't quite go for the Masterbuilt version. I'll keep you posted on whether the case is embroidered.
