When I brought my used 56 NOS Strat home it had 11's on it, and the neck was bowed quite a bit. First thing I did was put 10's on it and have been playing for about 2 weeks, letting the neck settle in with the lighter strings. What I have now is a slight upward bow at the head stock, and the strings a little high at the bridge. Thinking I need to tighten the truss rod before I lower the saddles?

Yes your neck must have the right curve before ajusting action ( saddle/ bridge)

In your case you need tighten your truss rod nut.

Beware : some allen wrench ( Fender ) coming with the guitar is not often a good quality and you will DAMAGE your truss rod nut.

By a good one , American made or high quality import.
The proper allen wrench / key MUST BE tight fit in nut .

Also use a straight edge to mesure the proper neck curve ; .010 to .011 inches at 7th or 8 th fret . The one wich have more play.
If your neck have the proper curve it can move a little bit with wheater change without strings buzzing and you can have low string action. If improper ajust, it won't.

"In your case you need tighten your truss rod nut."

Agreed; but a very little, step by step...
First just look at the shape of your neck when you view it from the headstock.
Adjust.
Just wait for the neck to readjust and then again a little, if needed. If the neck is getting straight, it's too much.
I know, it's a real pain because the adjustment screw is on the body side and to adjust with a screwdriver (hum yes, not an Allen...), you have to release the strings, unscrew the pickguard then, after, fix everything and test gain.
But it's worth
I know, the '56 is my daily working horse, but I LOVE it

You are right alainlafrance , on 56 NOS no allen wrench ; screw driver only . IMO it is the best truss rod .
I don't know if it is not easier with remove ( or just untightened ) the four neck/ body screw than the pickgard ?

Hum... to unscrew the neck brings you to reajust it laterally which is not an easy thing with strings released...
Hopefully you don't adjust the neck every other week...

IMO It is easy to reajust lateraly , I do that many time. Maybe by the pickgard is little bit easier not sure .Not too much room to move it with the pickups on . But it the fist thing to try I think.

The four neck screw , no need to remove them, just slack them

Had to remove the neck to get to the truss rod. Wasn't all that hard, loosened the strings, removed the screws, popped the neck out of the pocket. I put 1/4 turn in it, and reassembled. Got the strings back in tune, looked down the neck and it looks great! Got a little bow in the center of the neck, not much, but no more neck bend starting at the 5th fret! Was a little nervous removing the neck from the pocket, had visions of paint cracking or chipping, luckily none of that. I took a couple shots of the neck heel and pocket since the neck was off. One thing, why does the body and neck have a relic stamp, when it's a NOS?

Thanks for the assist guys!

All Time Machines, whether they be NOS, CC or Relic, have a Relic stamp.
