So i've had my eye on this beauty for a little while and finally took the plunge.

Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition 'Coda Music 25th Anniversary' Dealer Select Stratocaster NOS.

I call her Mabel :)

Based on a 1963 stratocaster but with some really interesting specs...

3-tone sunburst alder body.
Mint green pickguard with aged white parts.
Quarter-sawn maple neck with mid-’60s oval “C” back shape.
Tinted lacquer with satin finish to the back of the neck.
Round-lam rosewood fingerboard, 10.5" radius and medium-jumbo frets.
Hand-wound pickups by Abigail Ybarra: Custom ’65s in the middle and neck, with a slightly hotter version at the bridge.
5-way pick up selector.
Limited Edition cream case.

Also has the patent headstock decal and raised string tree.

Photo (image insert still not working for me!)...

Cheers, Mike!

Excellent guitar. Real clarity in the notes. Doug at Coda told me they'd spec'd it with 10" radius but of course Wildwood have that exclusively on their dealer selects so someone at the custom shop suggested 10.5" and it works really well.

Noticably flatter than a 9.5" but not in any extreme so it didnt take long to get used to.

Doyle Bramhall II plays a sunburst relic Strat not dissimilar to your Custom Shop axe.

They are my go to guy for my lefty needs. Doug did me a good deal on the price too. He also mentioned that they'd like to possibly do a run of dealer select teles next year, Butterscotch

I urged him to do a run of 50's strats as well 8)

Thanks Chromeface, when i do that, this still happens...

Finally worked it out! :D

Yes, I've seen Doyle playing that strat live, Chromeface. 3 summers ago when he came to town, as part of Eric Clapton's touring band. Amazing show!

Love the really dark rosewood fretboard and there seems to be a lot of black in the sunburst too, which i really like the look of.

Nice ..... love the dark rosewood. If I had to be picky that white tremelo tip kinda looks outta place. Was that the one that came with it?
I bet those pickups really sing!

I recalled Doyle playing a Flying V during EC's Japanese tour in 2009 (Little Queen Of Spades).

Lovely guitar Jim. How you finding the pick ups. I'm going to Coda on saturday to try one of these. Just wondered what your thoughts are in comparison to a CS69 pup.

Thanks Jimmy_James!

Yes, that's the bar that came with it! I agree it looks a little off. But fortunately I had an aged white tip lying around so that tiny issue has been sorted

Time flys! I saw them June '08 in Nottingham UK so actually 4 summers ago now...

Not very clear but you can just about make out a sunburst strat. To be honest, i always assumed it was a vintage piece. What do you know about his CS relic???

Amazing clip too! Willy Weeks bass playing is wonderful here.

Thanks dc01! :D

I havent played the CS69s so I cant compare them with these 65's. I own a CS '60 NOS too with custom 60's pups. These are crazy popular and i really like them but i think i'm liking these custom 65's more!

They are a little brighter but with more clarity and chords ring clearer but then i dont know how much of an impact the quarter-sawn neck and thinner round-lam rosewood board is playing in the guitars sound?! I was told they are lower output than the 60s.
Mine has amazing sustain though, compared to my CS 60.

But you'll find out for yourself on saturday if they suit your tonal needs! Do you have your eye on a specific one? I love dark rosewood and the NOS versions all have amazing fretboards compared to the relics (just my opinion) I think they still have 2 righty NOS's.

I'd be fascinated to know how the teambuilds hold up to the couple of masterbuilds they have in also so if you have a chance to get your hands on one of the masterbuilt one, let me know!

Please check back at the weekend and let me know how you get on :D

If you see Doug, tell him Simon loves his lefty dealer select! lol 8)
