On the Custom shop special order form there is the option for Indian rosewood fretboard (vs the "default" rosewood) for a $50 surcharge. How does Indian rosewood differ from the standard rosewood used? Is it nicer looking? What's the standard rosewood normally used by the custom shop anyway?

Brazillian Rosewood was the standard for a number of years.Due to over use it became unavailable and the switch was made to Indian osewood.

Not true.
We used it for a short time because policies had changed and we found a fair supply of it.
Indian has been the standard for Fender since the 60's.

Did you also use Madagascar and Bolivian rosewood?

Madagascar in the past, African. Mostly Indian, and that's all we use now.

I've heard that Fender used pau ferro as a fretboard material for their 5-string basses from 1990 to 2005, starting with the J-Bass Plus V.

Nowadays all 5ers came with rosewood fretboards like their 4-string cousins.

It's correct?
