Hi all - new to the forum. I've recently been droning on at the Strat Talk forum, trying to find out some more about a CS Strat I've just bought. Initially, I was sceptical about how 'genuine' the guitar was, mainly because of the COA – looked genuine, with the properly embossed CS logo and the same typeface I’ve seen on other examples. However, the top line says ‘1950 Stratocaster NOS’. Sooooo..., contacted Customer Relations and a nice guy sent me the following:

SN: R22414 Built: 01/29/2005

Model: 50’s Strat Smoke Room
Body: 2-Piece Alder
Finish: Florentine Gold (Lacquer)
Neck: Maple – 10/56 “V”
Radius: 9.5”
Pickups: Fat 50’s Stratocaster Single Coils
Strings: 010-013-017-026-036-046

BUT....can't find anything else about this series. No mention anywhere of a 'Smoke Room' Strat on the web or indeed the Fender Archives. Does anyone have one of these? It's a great strat incidentely, plays wonderfully, looks fantastic and sounds better.

Any feedback or information VERY welcome.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure that the Dusseldorf Fender Custom Shop showroom used to be called the smoke room so it could be a Fender Europe special order for that.

Great feedback! Thanks so much. The guitar in the link is very similar to mine, save the colour and c-profile neck (mine def has a soft v profile). So essentially a special order for a German showroom? Would make sense, given that I bought from a shop in South London: quite likely that some would find their way here. Used of course, but judging the price in Euros, I got a bargain! - 999 Sterling.

Hi Chris,
The replies are correct. I spoke with the Custom Shop, and this was a Teambuilt run made for the opening of the German Showroom (then called the Smokeroom). They were designed by Masterbuilder John English with input from Germany Custom Shop Sales Manager Gernold Linke.
The basics (with some variations as you've discovered): Vintage with a Custom Vintage style color, 9.5" radius, MJ frets. The Teles had Broadcaster style pickups ---the Strats had Fat 50's style pickups.
From a Customer Service/Consumer Relations side....although we try to get as much into our Database as possible, alot of information by nature of the beast, is somewhat "tribal" and so isn't easily accessible to the guys.
Good info from the forum though!! Nice work!

Hope that helps!!
All the best,
rob

Many thanks Rob! Amazing what one can find out by doing a little digging... My guitar even has the R22xxx SN that the example from the link had. It also has 'relic' stamped under the scratchplate, although I'm told this usual for NOS guitars. A great job done with series - detonate 50's vibe, with easier playability, but avoids a 'generic' feel. Now we know what we have here, anyone else have one? Calling all European brethren.....

Ahem....'detonate...?! The perils of not disabling predictive text on your 'phone... Should have of course read 'definite....'
