Seriously, these guitars are worth that much money?

To all that question how much this seller wants, I tried negotiating with him about 10 times, the lowest he's willing to go is what is equivilant to $25,000. No way I'm paying that much for one guitar. When I finally purchase one for the right price, I will defenitley be keeping it, will never sell it for anything. It's my dream guitar.

I guess that's what happens when you buy such an expensive instrument in the UK (assuming he did).

it was REALLY expensive there, a poor choice when you are planning to sell it and make a big profit, because it means your asking price will be way too high, especially such a short time after the release date.

I really hope you'll find one in your price range The Original :)

IMHO...one was too many. That' why the idea of '83' was an issue with me. Dead now, but........

Some people on the JM forums were saying a teambuilt and or masterbuilt unlimited run would have been great, and could happen for TBO. And sure I understand that having 1 of only 83 is owning a piece of Fender Custom Shop history. But If I recall with the Rory Gallagher strats for example they started out with a limited run, and eventually made the unlimited run of team built relics they have of his guitar now. If Fender did this, they would make money, and we the customers would be happy, especially since the demand for TBO's are still high. It would be cool to have that happen with TBO one day soon.

The 40 first Rory were just a batch for the European market. They were not specifically a fixed limited edition.
Because of the demand the supply expanded to the world. The new ones were strickly similar to the previous ones.
Different.
Regarding the TBO, Fender supplied 500 guitars. The 83 were a strict limited edition as it happened to other Tribute guitars of other guitarists.
The fact is that the TBO brought interest from a much larger panel of people usually not so interested in the guitar itself, but of the man himself.
"And sure I understand that having 1 of only 83 is owning a piece of history"
Not yet, not yet...

Cómo estan mis querido amigos del foro de la guitarra eléctrica Fender, jaja.

Wow, this is still a hot topic huh?

4k for the TBO 500 Mike? I thought I was robbed with the 2.4k I paid for mine; evidently I was wrong; it's cool to see from a player's standpoint that both instruments not only offer amazing sonic virtues, which they most certainly DO, but also retain and appreciate in time; it's almost heartbreaking when you buy a new car for instance to see how just as you take it out of the Dealer's that car is now worth 20% less; NOT in TBO's case and that's a real comfort; but the greatest comfort is, as said before, the great sonic value you just put your money on. And it is evident when you record with CS Fender Guitars in the studio. This past Friday I took Blackie Tribute for a spin hooked up to a 5w Fender 57 Champ and OMG I was blown away with the sonic qualities of the amp and specialy with the GUITAR, it's just one homerun after another. My advice to you IS: wait A while. Blackie was my holy grail and back in 06 when they came out I wanted one so bad but even if I had the 24k at the time which I didn't 3 years later a really sweet deal appeared at a certain Wisconsin Store (THANK YOU ALAIN!) selling for 6k less; not to say this will be for certain the case with TBO, but I think the market is still way to hot with this guitar at this point.

Alain, Doc, Saludos My Friends,

M.

Find your way through the two voluminous and heated threads which ran during this entire affair....if you have the time. Many of us, writing here, lived it. Ufff!! It ended in such a blistering attack on Mike Eldred, its a wonder he wants to have anything to do with us. That said, the '83' will remain just that. It was the intent of JM/FMIC to have a highly collectible, very limited edition piece. It isn't going any further nor, to the best of our knowledge and belief is the number '500' going to grow. Sorry, but you had to be in it to win it. In the words of that good old rock and roll standard....'it's all over now'

Ya estamos aqui!. Ojala que si! Tu ves? El papimiento no quema tanto!!!! De todos modos.......you, of course, are pleased that you got it on a down market. The intent for these guitars is that they appreciate in value. I don't see that sort of thing happening in my life time. If '54 Stratocasters are any example, I hope you [and JM] are still around when the '83' reach that vintage. There's a slim chance that Alain and Eye might be. My mother reached 93 as did her immediate younger sister. So who knows. Meanwhile, it's obvious that you are enjoying your acquisitions and we are deeply indebted to you for having invested in time and money so that we might share your findings in the comparison of the two JM projects. Our esteemed newly minted Forum colleague will have to search for that piece you wrote unless one of our able historians is able to post a link to it.

Que este bien amigo. Siempre un placer.

Doc

Yeah, I followed that whole forum from the get go, and I own one of the NOS TBO's. Too bad they will never make more then 83. But in a way it's cool to be the owner of only 83 worldwide. I'm a huge John Mayer fan. One day I will own one.

I certinaly hope so. However, you may have to squeeze the juice like our amigo did, and be happy about the taste.

Hey Doc, excellent spanish there my friend, hope you have been alright. Yeah I'm afraid at this point this guitar becomes a question of how bad do you want it cause some of those prices are starting to reach the ludicous levels ;)

Estoy bien gracias. On the subject....it was the intended purpose for it to be a collectible whose value would increase with time. However, that seems at cross purposes with JM's expressed hope that it would be a guitar to be owned, played and have music created as a result of it. I'm still of the opinion that Gilmour had the better idea with respect to his guitars, but I'm not looking to get into this issue.

Could someone do a demo of their custom shop Black1 besides the short ones on youtube? That'd be great!
