Hi - not sure if this is the right place to post but it is related to a custom shop strat:

Just wondering if anyone know what the middle and neck humbuckers Richie Sambora was using on one of his Strats in 1991?

The guitar is question is shown in the Ballard Of Youth video - the white strat with floyd etc...
(It's best viewed around 0:35, 0:43, 2:03) - didn't want to post a picture for copyright issues etc...

I imagine it's a custom shop job he'll have had done but it is very similar to his signature strat that was released - it has the Floyd, star inlays and also the active mid-boost (possibly one of the prototypes?)

I guess they'll be DiMarzios as the bridge one clearly is the same as this signature model - seriously doubt they'll be Duncans.

Any info on the specific models would be appreciated :D

Hi,

That was in the Official Sambora Signature, this was well before the signature series was produced...

http://youtu.be/gv8ZaD_oFpE
The guitar I'm on about is in the video above at 0:35, 0:43 and 2:03.

It could possibly be a prototype as it is almost the same as what went out in the signature series.

If it's not his Signature, it was a proto that became his signature, because I have that same white guitar.

For sure the middle and neck pickup are dimarzio. I was looking closely in the video.

Could be either maybe be Dimarzio Air Norton S, Fast Track

I certainly hope, with all that interest, that you own the CD  'Stranger in Town.'

I remember someone (from that other Fender forum I think) purchased Richie's white Strat with the star inlays. The pictures showed the neck was quite marked because it had that superglue finish like some of Eric's used to have.

This is the one - TK046 previously owned/used by Richie.

with active mid-boost circuit (25dB), TBX tone pot and a mid-boost bypass switch.

Japanese Black Paisleys still had the TBX and the DiMarzio PAF Pro humbucking bridge pickup, but lacked off the MDX mid-boost and the Texas Specials. There were also USA Custom MBS Black Paisleys which sported all those features.

The MIM version you're talking about is called the "Richie Sambora Standard"; featuring a poplar body, rosewood fretboard, 21 jumbo frets, two standard alnico single-coils and a Floyd Rose II locking tremolo.

Sure do have the "Stranger" CD :D

Chromeface: The scratchplate on my Mexi Sambora is slightly different to that one - it doesn't have the full cutout around the humbucker slot - just cut out to fit round the coils of the pickup (if you know what I mean)...

I think I'll have to experiment with the DiMarzio's in my Mexican strat until I'm happy with the tone... then throw them in the US

Wonder if this is the case they supplied with the MIM version, or are we looking at an aftermarket item. If not......then WOW!!

Bye JULIA

PS: Those sadly enough weren't CS models, just regular ones.
As far as I know only the ones built for RS himself were CS models and the ones
that were specially requested to be build by Fender customers.

Julia, the original Sambora Strat has the full 25dB boost with TBX circuitry.

The 12dB boost feature was introduced in 1999 when Richie changed his mind for a more traditional Strat with dual-coil ceramic stack humbuckers, no-load tone control and small MOP star fingerboard inlays.

This is the same case for the Black Paisley guitars.

As far as I know, Black Paisley Samboras were made in Japan and lacked off the Texas Specials and active mid-boost switch. However, the USA Black Paisleys Richie used onstage in the late 1980s and early 1990s (such as the pictured guitar) did have those features.
