I came across a used Fender 1956 VOS Custom Shop Strat today. The instrument has a gold finish, gold hardware, very highly figured maple neck, still has the plastic on the guard, serial #R4032X, 4 way selector (5 way in the case), case candy, certificate and tweed case. I was actually looking for a Nocaster, or a 52 Hot Rod. I know very little about Fender Custom Shop instruments, but really like this one. So, can someone give some some information about these guitars?

Since you have the serial number, and the description of the guitar, the best place to get more info on it is to contact consumerrelations@fender.com and they should be able to give you all the specs.

Since VOS is an acronym used by Gibson for their "Vintage Original Spec" guitars, I'm unsure whether your Strat is NOS, "New Old Stock," or a Relic, but it sounds great in Gold/Gold, and pics would be appreciated, of course, if and when you have some! Good luck! :)

I may have gotten the switch incorrect, was certain it had 4 positions? Thanks for the email, I sent a message to see what I can find out about the guitar? I put a deposit on the guitar to hold it until I can find out more. The receipt list the guitar as VOS, may have been a mistake by the technician. I was so excited about the sound and feel, I didn't notice many specifics!

My search on the Fender Custom Shop sight and email have turned up very little so far. Can't find the color even listed on the Custom Shop sight, and the model seems to be discontinued. I did find references to Wildwood selling special editions, and found this on their sight:

Still haven't found one with gold hardware, must have been a custom order I suppose. Would think that Fender would have a record of the serial number and what the specifications are?
