I recently bought a beautiful Custom Shop Deluxe Strat and I have been happy with the looks and sound but when I took to it to play with my band, the other guitar player, who builds guitars told he though there were a couple of problems with the guitar that I did not notice.

1) The strings go nicely over the Seymour Duncan Humbucker magnets but as you can see in the picture, the single coil magnets, especially the low E is not on top of the magnet on either the mid or neck pups. Is this normal? Are the single coil pups the wrong size?

2) The string distance to the end of the frets on both sides is asymetrical. The high E is close to the edge and there is a greater space on the low E string.

I took the picture perpendicular to the center of the neck, as centered as I could.

I would like your opinions on this issue.

Dan

Looks to me like the neck has shifted a tad, perhaps in transit, and it needs a little nudge over towards the bass side to correct it.
Slacken the strings a little, slacken the four neck bolts, and then push, or pull (gently) the headstock towards the bass side until the strings are equidistant to each side of the neck (I tend to have a fraction more space on the treble side, for a little more playing room) and then tighten up the bolts and re-tune.

This is one of those jobs that's easy if you have three hands, or a trained octopus to assist you! Good luck.

If you feel uncomfortable about doing that yourself though, the dealer should fix it for you!

The Strat looks fantastic! :)

Thanks Butterscotch. I have been playing guitar for 32 years, but I have never tried to fix anything on a guitar other than changing strings. Somehow I have blocked that aspect of being a guitar player :)

I would like input from Mike E on who should I send this to in South Florida.

I would rather not ship the guitar since it is possible that this occurred during transport.

Butterscotch mailed it.
Don't know the service centers out there. Custom Care guys can help. Any good Fender dealer can fix that up for you in less than 5 mins.

I am with you here. The only fix I know for guitars is replacing the strings, nothing more. I also don't know how to distinguish such problems, I could only check the sound quality of one guitar. I wonder how other players could know such defect.

Send a PM to Miami Mike. Though not in FL presently, he recommended someone in the Miami area to another Forum member. I unfortunately did not retain that email otherwise I would have sent it on to you myself.

veus: Check your PM. I happened to still have Mike's mail on my cell phone and I've sent the address along.

I'm in South Florida too, I'd like to have the information too if possible. The shop I ordered my CS Strat is a bit too far away from where I live...

Ha    . I bought my custom deluxe stratocaster in december and I had exactly the same problem. And it was a neck position problem.

The same thing happened to me when I got my Clapton Strat. Fixed it in a flash.
