I was just browsing through some sites and noticed there is a fairly large difference in price between the lowest price CS Strat and CS Tele. Any particular reason why or am I just imagining things (That's been known to happen.

Right, it always seems as Teles commandeer more cash than Strats, even used. Even though I can do more with my Strat than my Tele. I dont know.

My theory is that Fender realizes that Telecasters are used primarily by country players whereas Stratocasters are primarily used by blues players, and of the two we all know who makes more money..... JK

 Great theory, JK!

Is that a fact, though - are Teles really more expensive?
It's interesting because surely a Tele is less costly an instrument to build?
Perhaps Strats are cheaper because they're more popular - hell, they could be less popular for all I know - still, though, interesting observation.
Teles are typically made from Ash and quite often with translucent finishes and so the Ash needs a nicer grain... maybe there's something in that.

Your yellow Strat looks fantastic, Zonkers!

Thanks. I've found some closer priced CS Tele's and CS Strats, but there does seem to be a tilt towards the Tele being more expensive, which is odd to me, since there is a bunch more going on with the strat between the pups and the tremolo.
Again, this is just speculation on the little digging I've done.

And thanks. I am seriously loving this Strat.

Okay, theory number two: Telecasters have a chunkier body with less contours, and a single cutaway whereas Strats have two cutaways. Obviously your getting more wood with a Tele so therefore the higher cost..

Seriously I have noticed the same thing. I wonder if its wood selection like Dino mentioned. I love your Strat Zonkers, and someday I hope to own a CS model myself. I really love the EC strat..

I think I've got the answer:

Thursday night I attended a Custom Shop Roadshow event in Bath, UK, and Mike actually talked about this -
He explained how it's a common misconception that Strat's cost more to make than Teles and the reasons he gave why this was not so where because of the string-thru design and that the Tele's input jack was 'a real pain in the $@! to fit'!
I'm paraphrasing but that's pretty much what he said.

Anyway, Mike's said in no uncertain terms that Telecasters are more difficult to build than Stratocasters and that's good enough for me :D

I've built both from scratch and although I agree the cup jack on a tele is a pain to fit the tele wiring is easier, and you can access the control plate anytime without having to remove strings or pickguard.

Harder to build; easier to maintain
