I wonder if La Carbonita Boracha would ever catch on as a regular stock model, with a proper contoured body, a normal Jazzmaster or a metal cover-humbucker pickup on and all the standard color and finish options? It could be called The Drunken Jazzmaster, or something.

Oh yeah... and a normal price.

~750-1000 for a Fender, or ~500 for a Squier, instead of $6.000.

"Normal" price means normal price, instead of limited-edition-custom-shop-extravaganza price.

If I were a banker, or an economist, I might be very wealthy now in my retirement, but I wasn't, and I'm not!
However, there's a common misconception that mid-range Fenders are "normal" or "average" in price, compared to those around them, and that the CS pricing is out of kilter with that "norm."
What is not taken into account is that, over the years, the "normal" or "average" guitars have got cheaper and more affordable in real terms.

Fifty years ago (almost) I bought a new Strat. It was a custom colour so I paid an extra premium for that. It cost me the grand total of £168 here in the UK, and that was almost equivalent to 5 months wages. I was living at home and therefore my living expenses were minimal, otherwise I couldn't have managed it.
Now, this was a "normal" Stratocaster, off the line. No CS back then. It was the standard model (apart from the Fiesta Red)
Today, taking account of inflation and other damage to the currency, that £168 would be equal to about £2500. Maybe a little more. In terms of dollars, that means that $262 would be equal to $3897

$3897 for an ordinary Stratocaster? Not CS, just the average off the line model? That makes the "normal" prices nowadays extremely good value, as they are much cheaper than they used to be, but it also means that the really high end, Limited Edition, limited number, Custom Shop guitars are not way overpriced either, in real terms.

Expensive...yes!! Worth it...absolutely!!! :)

Where I live, the average monthly salary today is about $350 or about 200 english pounds if my mental conversion is any good, so that equation of yours would turn out even bigger numbers and I'm sure there are places in the world where the income is even lower.

BUT... this is not a thread about prices! The CS guitar may be worth $6.000 or even $60.000, it's about whether or not would it be cool to have a "backwards" Jazzmaster with a single pickup as a non-custom, line model.

Why ask a question that does not pertain to the CS in the CS area?

Yes, I several times made the same comparison and for the price of a Squier now (a fine guitar pricewise) in the early '60s you had a lousy Eko at best or an Egmond with a 1cm action at the 12th fret !

Why don't you report the thread and beg them to close it?

Does get a tad frayed around the collars in here oft times, doesn't it Butterscotch. :?:

Point is...Fender is unlikely going to mass produce a spot on, yet dumbed down, copy of a limited edition instrument which they sold at a premium price. The whole hairy issue of the John Mayer guitar projects told us that last year. It is also why the finishes for the Artist Series Claptons are not the same as those for the Custom Shop guitars, and why the Daphne Blue and EC Gray guitars were an LTD run and are no more and why, if you want a spot on copy of the guitar EC plays to be built, these days you're going to have to pay a guy like Todd Krause around $5K US to build it for you. I realize that it's a hard rain gonna fall, but that's what "When you're ready" really means.

Now if that doesn't frame the question and answer in a Forum ready fashion, I don't know what will. But it sure seems to me that it's precisely what the OP was interested in finding out.

Doc

+1
This seems to be a concept lost on those who constantly whine about pricing.
