1 week since I got it. Still amazing. Have shown it to friends, to my tech. Everyone is in awe of the neck, the fretwork, the sustain (unplugged, can't bring an amp into work dammit)

I hope I can get a CS Tele at some point, though they seem to be A LOT more expensive than the Strats (looking at the prices at The Music Zoo)

awesome guitar . love the spec too .. im a more "modern" than "classic " when it come to strat .. i like locking tuners , lsr roller nuts, C shape neck with medium jumbo frets .

those are more rare from the custom shop . most of them are NOS 56 style .. vintage frets , vintage tuners ,

but mine would have to be HSS . :)

G'day Zonkers, That's a great color mate 8) Like you, I am in awe of my Custom Classic. The beautiful neck, modeled on the 60s "C" shape I believe. 8) ...and those pickups ....ain't they great? You did well getting the Custom Classic rather than the Custom Deluxe which already has the Sperzels and roller nut. They have Texas Specials I think. These Modern Classics and Hot Classic pickups are just Wonderful. :D :D ,you don't see them anywhere else.
I picked my Custom Classic up second hand but perfect, with such upgrades that I had to buy it. It has the Ash body upgrade for the Transparent Cobalt Blue nitro finish and the neck must be AA flamed Maple. They only use AAA on Masterbuilts apparently, so that must be pretty nice. My neck and headstock are completely covered in tight little flames which seem to lick around the fretboard, stunning.

I thought the same thing about the tremolo block, looks a bit small, but it's not an issue.
I still have the Standard tuners. I like the clean look and haven't felt the need for locking tuners.

Yep. I'm a big fan. I'm surprised I don't read much about the Custom Classic. Enjoy the "Yellow One" mate.
......Mark.

Nice flaming on that headstock. I have the same thing, but it changes in the light. And that Cobalt Blue is stunning

I asked Mike E a question, but he was either too busy to read it completely or, well I don't know.

The question was what set of strings are used on my guitar. I specifically asked for 11's with a wound 3rd, which is what I play on all my electrics (save for the Casino, which gets flatwounds 8) ) And I got 11's with a wound 3rd, and

I checked into Fender's string sets, but couldn't find 11's with a wound 3rd. Granted I didn't go into a 'thesis paper' type of digging, but I did dig some, no luck :(

I always buy D'Addario EXL115W for strings, but these felt better and would love to know if they were a pre-packaged set or just strings pulled from a bin per my spec's.

And it's time to change the strings... I think I may hang onto them. Coil them up, put them in the storage compartment in the case. Yea, I'm sentimental like that.

Oh, and this thing is just getting better with playing. Any suggestions on cleaning the fretboard? It appears to have that Rickenbacker thing going on where they glossed the neck and then placed the frets, you can see the gloss 'pushed in' next to the fret, if that makes any sense at all.
I tried to find a pic for an example, but no luck. I use fastfret (have for decades, even have the original tin container the first one came in back in 198? ) I think I'll just use a microfiber cloth to clean it when swap strings.

Well then the order was screwed up since I asked for 11's with a wound 3rd and the set of strings I got sure felt like 11's and the 3rd was wound, or you were wrong.
Not trying to be a dick here, but I was asking if there was a Fender set of 11's with a wound 3rd that I could buy, I couldn't find any in my brief search.

I do appreciate you taking the time to answer customers questions, but it felt like you didn't even read my question and gave a stock answer with the 'normal' set of strings most guitars ship with.

My error.
I thought your question was what did we normally put on at the shop (.10 to .46).
Sorry about that. We use Daddarios.

No worries at all. Thank you for answering. And it looks like I can continue buying my EXL115W's.

LOL.. it started by accident. I was sick of the flat lifeless sound a G string can sometimes have, and someone suggested a wound 3rd, from then on it's been 11's with a wound 3rd.

Bends on frets 1 - 4 are a little more tough, but that wound string has some nice depth to it. Or it's all psychosomatic and I'm hearing what I want to hear.

Blues based rock, blues. Punk/Ska, however you want to classify Pink Floyd.

Thanks for sharing the progress of this project with us over these many months. It's great to finally see it in your hands. That finish holds a special place in Fender history. I'm really surprised that we haven't seen more of them. Of course you know it was created specifically for and by the request of Jeff Beck, even though they couldn't get him to sign on the line for the Strat Plus project. No doubt you will agree that The Music Zoo certainly earns its reputation as a Showcase Dealer, not-withstanding the original 'burp'. I'm planning to find my way over there this weekend to have them setup my '57VHR and reset the trem claw on my '89 Clapton. I'm going to miss that access when I eventually move to South Florida full-time.

Mike...that part of the world sports a good number of Forum members [several of whom I am pleased to call friends now] and should really be accorded the luxury of a Showcase Dealership.
