Dear people,

thank you for taking the time to read this thread, and please, forgive me in advance, for a possible few newbie questions that arise in these waters probably more than it should, these will happen since I am in a bit of rush, concerning a particular custom shop strat.

About a month or so ago, I saw a youtube video of Clapton;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM0n68piKy8.

After jizzing in my pants 2 times throughout the recording, I realized that that strat is the one I have pictured lying with me in my bed with me, ever since I started playing. So I googled...

But the goo came out confusing...I found out that the one he is playing there is a "EC Signature LTD" and that it's out of stock. I've also found this; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Custom-S ... 500wt_1413.

Since the EC sig. is apparently impossible to acquire, what would be the main difference between it and this Wildwood 10, which seems identical to me. They're both custom shops, all that's missing on the WW is Eric's signature. Wood differences?

And, are there any other Custom Shop Daphne Blue Strats I should know about? Is the eBay link a good buy? What are these worth anyway?

Overall, what would you guys want to buy, among all these Daphne's?

Now, here comes the newbie question - is it necessary for a CS Fender to have that beautiful "grainy" neck (wood spots) to be "true". Is that one of the criteria for evaluating the high-endness of a CS? I'm asking, since the one on eBay has no grain at all. Is it just an aesthetic-al
thing?

Thanks, looking forward to replies...

The Wildwood guitar you're talking about is very similar to slowhand's main guitar, except it got three John Cruz single-coils, 21 Dunlop 6105 frets and regular passive circuitry. Eric's own Daphne Blue Strat features three Vintage Noiseless pickups, active TBX and MDX controls (Teambuilt versions only - Masterbuilts came with a standard tone pot) and a modified soft V-shape with 22 vintage frets.

Custom Shop guitars can range from very simple to very sophisticated in terms of woods, finishes, etc. and that level of detail will determine whether it is Masterbuilt or not. Often, a dealer will order a guitar build to certain specifications. Often, a customer will say,(and this was an actual order, the history of which was followed in these pages), 'I want a replica of the guitar EC played at the Cream Reunion concert.'
As far as the two guitars you've referenced, they are two different breeds of cat, with a common coat. The question begs a matter of differences in taste, and some would answer by saying 'buy both' because we have members who can and do.

Due to the lights' intensity, Eric's baby blue Strat looked much like a surf green guitar.

Surf Green is a colour normally associated with Jeff Beck.

...and here's one where you won't get any closer to Clapton's own one:

Not my juice. That's nearly double the price Wildwood sold the teambuilt LTD for.

Eric doesn't actually use Olympic White Strats, however he got his very first signature model in that finish in 1994.

This guitar was his main stage and studio axe for nearly 2 years; its last public appearance dates from 1996 during a gig at the RAH in February 19th.

Used it during the "From The Cradle Tour''. Saw most of that on PBS before I saw him live at MSG. Had great center floor seats for that one. This photo may be from one of the rehearsals. My nephew had an Artist Series guitar in white. I wonder if it's still in his possession. Worth an email to find out.

I believe this sunburst ES-335 was also used during the Back Home world tours of 2006/07, the first half of the 2011 world tour and the Play The Blues gigs with jazzman Wynton Marsalis.

Sold in 1999, wasn't it? The ES335TD S/N A32333. The recent one is surely just a similiar looking guitar?
