Hi all.

I have realized that I prefer Strats and therefore I would like to get a CS strat sometime.

I have a great 57 AVRI, which I love, and therefore I have decided that I want a 650s style RW 3 tone sunburst as my next.

I'm used to playing vintage spec. guitars, hence, I'm not sure if I'll like a 9.5 radius and big(ish) frets.

I'm looking for the guitar to have a warm and bluesy sound.

I'm sad to see that Fender don't make any time machine models with 7.25 and vintage frets anymore. I want the strat to be a close reproduction of an original, hence, the 9.5 and big frets is not what I would prefer.

The above said, it's not that I can't play 9.5 and big frets- I can, however, they feel a bit awkward to me.

How many of you guys have purchased a Cs strat sight unseen? I'm seriously considering this as the prices in UK (for some models) are significantly lower than in DK. Anyone got suggestions of UK CS online dealers?

I have fairly big hands, so perhaps I should go for a thick neck but I'm heard you have to work harder to get the tone you want from a fat neck, and that the low end is more tight than with a thin neck What do you think?

Any suggestions? Oh: I don't like big headstocks so it's 60-65 (and 66?) for me.

Not true. You can still order a stock 1956 Stratocaster off the downloadable order sheet. 7.5 radius, vintage frets, normal wiring.

The 9,5" radius, 5-way switch and medium-jumbo frets are primarily intended to add a modern touch on these instruments and meet the needs of the most discriminating guitar aficionados in mind.

Can you give me a link to the list containing all models that can be ordered and the specs of them?

From what I understand, I can order any of the base models found on the last page and add all the features I like (except the features listed under the headline: Master Built only) and still keep it Team built, right?

What's the advantage of a thick neck vs. a slim neck and vice versa?

This is something you must work out for yourself. Nobody can give any sort of advice that is meaningful, nor should be any taken in this area. It is like saying -is blue better than red? We can all have personal opinions but it should matter little to you. Best is to try out the various shapes and decide for yourself. Even then the same neck can be set up to feel difrerently in my experience. Good luck in your quest.

Best thing to do is go to a Showcase Dealer near you to try as many as possible.

I'm in the same boat as you. I want as close to reproduction of the original as possible with todays materials. You can still find CS strats with those specs on ebay or at guitar centers here in the states. My only issue with that is standard CS are great guitars... better than the standard American/whereever built fenders, but the ones I have played have been all very average.

The teambuilt guitars that I have custom ordered - while costing a little more - are very special guitars in build, playability, and tone. In fact, my two TB guitars are everybit as good as my masterbuilt '54 re-issue. so, if you are looking for something special, I would recommend having one built to your spec's. It just feels like the custom orders have a little extra love and care put into the making of them... and when you strap it on and plug it in you really can connect with it and feel it!

If you want to talk to someone in the UK, I can recommend Doug at Coda Music in Stevenage.
Take a look at their website, as they normally have a lot of CS guitars in stock!

While it is indeed tempting to make a custom order (once I figure out what features I'd like) I'm scared to do so as I will be stock with the guitar and forced to buy it. No returns on custom orders.

Anyone's returned a custom order?

I just don't understand what love and attention could be put more into these guitars? I mean, the neck/body wood would be the same as one the base models?

I'd only perhaps have them sort for light wood, and perhaps change radius and frets and have it reliced.

Can one specify a really dark (almost black) rosewood board on a TB?
