Hi all,

My name is Will and have been playing guitars for almost 20 years now. My first guitar, and my main axe, is a Warmoth "Strat" that my dad and I built. Until recently, it was an S-x-H. Two weeks ago I put a new pickguard and a set of DiMarzio Areas in it. This guitar is awesome and has become the guitar that I judge all others against.

My other guitar is an 83' "Two-Knob" American Strat. My dad gave me this guitar after I made him feel guilty for NEVER playing it. It wasn't until after I received it for my birthday that I learned how truly unique this guitar is. I know there are people who hate and despise this era, but I personally think it is a good guitar and a unique part of Fender's history. I'm honored to own it. Anyway, I'm not a fan of the thin neck and 12" radius. It's just a little uncomfortable to play and thus it doesn't get as much love as my Warmoth. Here's some pics.

*Note the unintentional relic-ing LOL*

Anyway, I'm in the market for another Strat. I have always wanted a "true" American Strat. For years I have coveted the Eric Johnson Signature, but am shy because of the FB radius. Recently I remembered playing a Strat at Ted Brown Music in Tacoma, WA. It was the most perfect guitar I have ever been privileged to play. I asked the sales guy, "how much." And, if I remember correctly, he said $2500. Reflecting on that, I think it might have been a CS. I have absolutely fallen in love with the Custom Shop Custom Deluxe Special available at a well known internet music store based in Indiana. The 65 "C" neck sounds very similar to my Warmoth neck which has a 1st and 12th fret thickness of 0.8125" and 0.844" respectively and C shaped. I'm most interested in a 9-1/2" radius and am drooling for rolled FB edges and associated fret-end dressing.

My question is, do the CS guitars or even the higher end production Strats come with shielded cavities? I guess I'm trying to prep my budget for some more DiMarzio Areas or even some Kinman PUPs if I need them.

Peace, and I'm happy to be here. I love Strats!

Will

No, just answers don't come instantly.
Some yes, most no, from the ones I own.

Thanks,

I was surprised because it had been over two weeks since I posted my introduction/question above. I have never visited a forum where I wasn't welcomed after my first post. I thought the '83 would have generated some discussion.

Anyway, thanks for your response.

Will

I've been on holidays, simply didn't see your first post. And the question was sort of hidden in the end, so it took me a while to discover it.

Welcome to the Fender board!

Cheers

David

My 2011 Custom Deluxe didn't have shielded cavities when I took delivery. Courtesy of conductive paint and copper foil, it does now :-)

Your 83 2-knob strat is ultra cool. Would love to hear it if you have a sound clip.

I too have a Warmoth that I love and a I also love my CS strat.
