Does the Custom Shop recreate the famous "smoker's models" Eric Clapton played between 1988 and 1993?

It's also possible to replicate the Versace straps EC used during the Journeyman tour?

Good question.

We never made those straps.
Be more specific about the color please.

I think it's very hard to reproduce the straps.

Prior to 1990 Eric favored either a red or black Ernie Ball strap onstage.

Personally I opt for an EC Grey LTD built to the early 1990s specs with Lace Sensors and a distressed flame maple neck featuring the famous cigarette holder and burn on the head (though I know these guitars are no longer available to the public and Eric doesn't smoke cigarettes anymore).

Are you asking if it's possible for Fender to build a Strat with the cigarette hole in the top of the headstock, like on the black model (built by JW Black) he sold in the first auction?

You guess right, this is effectively the guitar I'm talking about.

I think the "smoker's guitar" will be available in five distinctive colours, each of them represents a specific date from that period: Torino Red, Pewter, Candy Green, Tobacco Sunburst and Black.

For example, the Tobacco Burst "smoker" is supposed to be an exact replication of a hardtailed Strat used by EC during a Stones concert at the Shea Stadium in 10/10/89 (it should not be confused with the original Brownie).

IMHO, the best image of that is the headstock of the Pewter prototype on the cover of the first edition of Duchossoir's book on the Stratocaster. Best history is likely found in the '04 Christies Auction catalog. +1 on your choice of electronics and finish. I'll take mine without the nicotine damage.

A bit of footage of THE 'Smokers' version (rather than guitars he was using whilst smoking)... the JW Black one-off. This is great footage :)

All of his photos are on WheresEric.com along with thousands more. No magic here.

Does anyone know exactly what the cigarette holder / hole looks like? Am I missing it? I don't quite understand if it's a hole in the headstock or something mounted on the back. I'm curious.

On the actual 'Smokers' guitar it's a hole in the top the headstock - featured in the video I posted which is a one-off JW Black built guitar which Eric sold in his auction.

Due to the language difference I suspect.. I'm not sure if Chromeface was referring to that guitar or to all the guitars Eric played whilst he was smoking (and burning the headstock!)

Ah, I see. I suppose it is just a little hole. Anyone could drill that themselves, I reckon. Confusion came from Harrison calling it an "ashtray."

But thanks for that video post. Hadn't seen that before. Very, very funny.

Me too I could see the result but not knowing the origin (the hole)

I was referring to both.
