For the first few months, I have not brought my custom shop strat out of the house. As I become accustomed to it, I wonder if it is common practice to avoid certain situations, bringing a lesser instrument instead. Are people jealous of these things? I tried having a ¨destroyer¨axe but it wont even stay in tune. I sort of feel bad leaving the CS behind, my other guitars feel terribe now that I have a top strat. What is your strategy?

They are such fine instruments I'm of the persuasion that they should be played.
My strat: I have taken it from California to Arkansas for a gig and also to Washington state. One plane ride, one car ride. No problems. Continue to gig with it.
My Tele: It's tuned to open G and I gig with it. People like it and comment on it yes and I am careful with it but hell, I love it and I play it. Not encountered jealousy but some admiration by other guitar players. :)

What the heck, I say play em. that's why I got em.

I always told myself that I'd never buy a guitar I wouldn't play - and that still stands true. Regarding bringing them around - I guess it just depends. Some people talk about how they're amazing I'll bring some guitars on stage - but it's not like someones going to jump up on stage and grab it and start beating it on the ground. The thing I'm always worried about is one of them being stolen - so I just keep a close eye on them at all times. I have no problem bringing them out and about though!

I've gotten into the habit of only gigging my relic's, I'm not so worried about them getting damaged, although it never happens, I keep the nos guitars at home.

Ok, that´s it! The CS is leaving the house. No more hiding. I gotta ask my cousin to teach me how to load pictures. I just met this dude carrying around a 3500 dollar les paul, he seemed quite casual. Must emulate. Update soon. fight.

There are scary places ´round here. Yet thanks to your advice the CS left the house and all went well. It´s good to find out most people won´t know what´s what. Now that I´m through idolizing this long awaited aquisition, I am getting down to using it. It is such a pleasure to sound this guitar, I hardly have a mind for my previous guitars. It will take some getting used to, bringing it out and about.

I have a couple of security grunts that go everywhere I go just to watch my gear, I have some very expensive guitars. Nothing ever gets touched!

Na, no security grunts! :-) But my thoughts are guitars are meant to be played, if they are $10K or $500. I never buy a guitar to hang it on the wall like a picture. If they get stolen, thats what insurance is for. Show them babies off and you will perform much better with it in your hands!

No, just one Relic per gig, La Cabronita, most of the time (what a really great guitar BTW), on which I keep a permanent eye.

First off - It's been a while! been quite busy. got some Fender-related stuff this week ;) maybe a thread will pop up about it. super stoked!

to answer the OP, considering I tour with three of mine, I'd say yeah i do!

Left - 2009 CS '64 Relic Strat LTD (Candy Tangerine) - my backup

Right - 2009 CS one-off '64 Relic Strat (Sonic Blue) - my main

I run straight into a Fender Super Sonic 60 112 (occasionally using a Line 6 G50 Wireless)
Image

my alternate for some shows is my 2009 CS '58 Tele Relic HB (I added the 3 ply pickguard cause the 1 ply was warping)

Image

my thoughts/opinions are like this - yes they cost a lot of money. but that doesn't mean you have to keep them in a vault your whole life (unless you enjoy that kind of thing)... I especially feel this way about the relics. I mean what is the worst that could happen, it falls off its stand to get another scratch to match the hundreds of others? lol and if something really bad happens, that's why there is insurance. ( I can't imagine what a collection the size of Alain's would be to insure )

* one extra note - this is not my setup for Peligro 614, but for a group i do a side man gig for

Did Mike move your Masterbuilt to the front of the line as a graduation present Chanman? If so that might make record time for a masterbuilt for someone other than clapton or mayer! I assume when those guys want a guitar fender bends over backwards to get it to them next day if possible... congrats on whatever you got! look forward to seeing it.

i always find it humerous to hear of people that have made it say when they were poor starving artists they couldnt get enough money to buy lunch but once they made and have more money than they know what to do with as they get everything free. oh the irony of life!

I have a CS 64 limited J-bass, and it has gone everywhere with me. the worst place its been was in downtown L.A to a place called "Pure Pleasure blues club" where they keep the front door locked at all times! you have to knock to get let in..
I also have a friend that plays an original 57 strat thats just gorgeous. he plays it everywhere, but it never leaves his side. I say play it, but if its worth a fortune like his strat insure it!

^ for sure. That's the same deal Bonamassa has with that '59 Burst he takes on tour. Dont know the exact quote by heart (it's in premier guitar), but he insures the hell outa it, has a custom road case for it, and even a former secret service agent as his bodyguard for it.
