Question for anyone who might know the answer to my question. I also posted this on the Ask Mike section.

Can I order a masterbult Clapton in EC Gray? I know they did the teambuilts back a year or two ago and they stated that would be the only year you could get one. Is the same true for the masterbuilt version? I would want the certificate to state Clapton Stratocaster and not smething generic like Custom Stratocaster.

Any knowledge you guys could pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Take care,

Scott

True. Fender made a limited run of CS Clapton Strats in EC Grey and Daphne Blue. These guitars were available only for 2010.

Of course you can order a Masterbuilt EC Strat in EC Grey. Go to a showcase dealer to place your inquiry.

You'll get an exact representation of ole slowhand's personal guitar, which DOESN'T feature the TBX tone circuit.

i dont think this is accurate.

the limited editions they did last year included both Teambuilt and Masterbuilt versions.

i dont believe you can place a new order for one of the limited colors (and have it be called a Clapton strat) whether it is Masterbuilt or not.

a quick call to a dealer would confirm my thought, though.

Despite this inconvenience, the CS continues making this pair for EC himself.

So what's next for 2012? An EC signature Brownie in the most coveted tobacco burst finish or another one-of-kind guitar finished in a matching car paintjob?

Mike,

One last question; in future years might Fender make me one? Like when he goes through another strat change with custom colors?

Thanks,

Scott

It's a reasonable question Scott but understand that limited editions are handled that way to deliberately enhance the value of the piece. You have to strike while the iron is hot because they are not repeated. If you must own that guitar, keep you eyes open for a resale either on eBay or Craig's list, or elsewhere, realizing that second owners do Not enjoy warranty benefits.

lwildcatz,

Here's a Teambuilt at Sweetwater: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/StratECsigGY

A Krause-built at The Music Gallery (I think it is in stock): http://www.musicgalleryinc.com/Eric_Clapton_Custom_Shop_Stratocaster_Masterbuilt_p/cz518539.htm

You can get the guitar with pleked frets for an additional price of $125.00.
