Hi guys,

Here's one for ya; is it usual for a Custom Shop Stratocaster to have a thicker headstock than the factory guitars?

Only, until I got my Custom Deluxe, I just assumed that they were all the same (or never really thought anything about it at all) but when I first picked up my Custom Shop Strat, I noticed straight away that the headstock looked somewhat thicker than my other two Strats (1982 USA '57 Reissue and a 1999 USA Standard) but I only just got round to actually measuring it out of curiosity.

The 1982 '57 Reissue and the 1999 Standard measure pretty much identical at 13.60mm vs 13.86mm, but just as I thought, the Custom Shop Strat measures 15.18mm.

Thats approx 1.5mm thicker than the other two. It doesn't sound much, but to actually see them together, it's a pretty noticable difference.

To be honest, I actually prefer the look of the thicker headstock (so please don't think that this is in any way a complaint), and so I was just wondering if there was any particular reasoning behind it, or whether it was simply that the guy who built my neck that day decided to build it that way?

Anyone else noticed anything like this?

Thanks for any input

Russ :)

Our production techniques are completely different than the regular production line. That cut (for us) is done on a pin-router.
