This is my 56 NOS Time Machine version which I picked up two years ago, the choice was this or a Tom Anderson Tele....I have not regretted my decision..

By having traced this 56 back in it's history ( it's a 2001 ) it used to belong to a Fender Rep in this neck of the woods, so I assume the gold option was a plus, amazingly it seemed as it spent 2001 to 2009 in it's case, rarely taken out. It had no scratches or dings anywhere, I suspect it was used mostly as a showpiece/demo....

Nice guitar! The gold hardware looks good on that body. It seems that almost every 56 NOS has extremely plain wood on the body, opposed to the AMVR '57 which generally show somehat more woodgrain, eventhough both guitars have alder bodies. I wonder if this is a concious decision of FCS to use this plain type of wood for the bodies on this model?

I would guess it is, looking at the spec and build sheet for this 56 NOS it does state Select Alder so that is a hands on selection, I like it as it seems as if it is painted over with a light coat, but on closer inspection, you see that it is actually a really clean minimal grain body.
The neck is also plain, there is a hint of figuring but it is so minute that it really is just a well selected neck but not for Maple Figuring. ( I could be wrong here, I'm only guessing, Mike Eldred being the signee on the CA could answer that question to confirm either way.)
I have had this for almost two years and if I had to unload guitars, this one would not be for sale, the other 4 would ( they are not CS's ) it really is an exceptional guitar, not for everyone since it is period specific and thus Vintage specs are not for everyone.
I was fortunate to come across this when I least expected to, but hope the next CS will be as much fun to find..I really don't mind buying a preowned CS, as long as it comes with all the Case Candy that belongs to it as well as the case...This one did not...
I did get a Fender ( G&G made case ) in the appropriate tweed and interior but that is a question I have to ask Mike, actually I'll post pics along with the question on his thread...

I do enjoy it, it gets played everyday, has gone out to a Jam-night amongst friends, I'm not sure if I would bring it to a Gig since it is highly desirable and locking my wrist to it is not a fun way to spend an evening....But some places are safer than others...
