I actually have the griggio guitar and it's awesome, I don't think it has anything to do with Pewter other than it looks grey, this one has a almost sunburst feel to it that changes with the light, it can look quite light grey or amazingly enough even dark grey with hints of blue.

The torino red prototype was Clapton's main stage guitar during the August tours in 1986/87; it got also a 22-fret neck like the two Pewter prototypes, so I think it's surely Lot #63, supposedly used by Andy Fairweather-Low and the late George Harrison during the 1991 Rock Legends Japan Tour.

This guitar is now owned by cricketer Ian Botham whose Eric gave it as a gift in exchange for his bat.

I know they did a great job with that guitar, and I was tempted, but I had to think long and hard about what I was going to gain from that investment, [already owing an '89 Pewter] beyond just another guitar. If you want to get into the subject of auto paints, and Clapton guitars, there was a 'blue' guitar which went out in 2004 auction, the name of which I cannot quote at this time, but there was an interesting story, and finish. I am counting on Chromeface to come up with the facts. That's a unique piece I wouldn't have minded owning.

'Brizio' of 'flip-flop' paint. it was a hot-rod color (like of the picture with he and BB in the Riding With The King era).

it was a chameleon purplish/blueish type of tint to the guitar...the car actually had hints of orange and brown in it also.

THAT was a cool guitar. the catalogue referenced a similar chameleon blueish/blackish one that was considered the primary - but that one never seems to have been auctioned...guess EC liked that one! :D

i have not seen one in person yet but that is my impression from pictures.

the pewter almost seems to have a silverish base to it, while the grigio i always felt like had blue in it. in other lighting though, there can almost be a gold/copper/bronze type quality to it also to me.

I have not revealed it to anyone, but....although it would seem quite late, i have a standing order for a limited edition still

Stipes, meet ufboy. The prodigal son returns. It was he of whom I wrote of the '83'. Had no intentions until he just happened to play one. Love at first bite. Thanks to his detail oriented approach to things we uncovered stuff about the Clapton guitar which lay hidden behind the sawdust veil of the Custom Shop.

The Flip Flop paint you're talking about is Midnight Blue.

From what I've read the Midnight Blue Strat served as a backup to the Larry Brooks/Jay Black Masterbuilt "Blackie" which was EC's main stage axe at the time.

ufboy is not talking about Midnight Blue, he's talking about the 'chameleon' paint which was taken from the hot-rod car.

It's in the 2004 auction catalogue.

It's that guitar ufboy is talking about?

Looks like Midnight Blue to my eyes!

This guitar was made circa 1996, so I suspect it started life with Lace Sensors.

I believe this guitar was used during the Legends concerts in 1997 serving as a backup to EC-1. Pickups changed from Lace Sensors to Vintage Noiseless circa 2000.

The guitar in the URL link above (rainbowr.gif) is the guitar ufboy is talking about. It's not Midnight Blue.

It was made in 2000 by Todd Krause. Lee's nickname for it was "Rainbow Rod".

Do you have the 2004 auction catalogue? It contains pictures of both the guitar AND the Hot Rod car who's colour it shared. The colour is described as "Chromalusion".

Lefty's got it all right in the details. I may have quoted from the catalog on this guitar for a past thread. I don't know if the guitar which was sold ever saw the stage. I would expect that no two guitars would appear exactly alike, the paint being what it is. The history in the catalog is interesting, along with a great photo of the two of them in the hotrod. It was lent to Eric during his time out there. I had taken the opportunity to research the paint. Chromalusion is class of paint provided in a variety of hues. It's is not specified as to exactly which one was used for the car or the guitar. But what great paint finish it is.

It's possible to order a Chromalusion EC Masterbuild with Lace Sensors?

UFBoy It IS definetly a changeling from looking at it in person; all kinds of color changes happening under the light; congrats on getting a masterbuilt it definetly won't dissapoint. At the suggestion of Alain I almost never take out mine except to play and then is right back into the case because the neck you see is almost a white maple and I want to keep it that way as opposed to leaving it out in the sunlight where it can start getting yellowish, ain't that right Alain?
Aside from the above, mine is a team built, you're getting a Masterbuilt? You Lucky Dog You!

Hi M.
"At the suggestion of Alain I almost never take out mine except to play and then is right back into the case because the neck you see is almost a white maple and I want to keep it that way as opposed to leaving it out in the sunlight where it can start getting yellowish, ain't that right Alain?"
Absolutly correct.
Just like a virgin skin; so pure; so immaculate.
The only one I've got like that and I want to preserve it like it is.
I worked and lived in Asia for a long time and the most beautiful women were the ones with a white porcelaine thin skin; never in the sun always with umbrellas. Just to preserve the almost transparent whiteness of the skin,. no wrinkles when aging..
I feel that my Mercedes Blue EC Strat® is just like that.
So pure
Thanks Todd.
